| World Tour in Comics: Philippines OCP Other Comics 2008/7/5 19:18 4042 10
Back to another character to my World Tour in comics, this time from Phillipines. I choosed to make kind of an amalgam version from a couple versions of her (past and present) that I found googling but I think it didn't came out that bad: Darna is a superheroine created by Mars Ravelo. In her more popular incarnations, she is a warrior from outer space manifesting herself through a girl from Earth, named Narda. Darna was originally known as Varga and first appeared in Bulaklak Magazine, Volume 4, #17, on July 23, 1947. Ravelo had differences with the editors of Bulaklak Magazine and Varga's name was changed to "Darna". The character was re-launched on May 13, 1950. Nestor Redondo drew the first Darna. Regardless of her many incarnations, the 1950's origin of Darna begins with a village girl named Narda who finds a small white stone, a tiny meteorite from outer space. Narda swallows the stone and shouts "Darna!" - becoming a mighty warrior ready to defend Earth from evil forces. (Thankz Wikip?dia) |

| SILVER AGE: BLACK CANARY Hisstoryman DC Comics 2008/7/5 16:35 3617 7
UPDATE: Added the 1975 Harley and worked in some wrinkles to the uniform and jacket. There were some clean ups as well.
Been wanting to tackle...um... maybe that's not the right way to put it but.., this character for a while. The fear was the amount of black/dark blue in the uniform. I tried to get around that by doing a night/dusk scene. The application of textures to both the jacket and corset, I think, helped as well. Another problem was finding a good model for BC. I did not want to pick some teen-something for her, I wanted a more mature woman. I think I found her. A few picks of this lovely will be in the cookie jar soon.
Model: Vicki Vette |

| Like this Dar? Masterchief Fantasy 2008/7/4 7:49 2655 9
I came up with this idea for Dar for several reasons, one of which is because he is always getting blamed for everything so I took a little extra time and did something different for Dar. I pushed the envelope from pin-up to borderline cheesecake shot. I tried to go more for the photographers point of view on this. I wanted that photoshoot feel to it. So Dar, this is Druscilla and she is your dream girl. |

| Jean Grey: Throughout the Ages part 1 thestarkiller Marvel Comics 2008/7/4 2:11 3477 7
This is the first in a series I am working on. I'm going to use the same base image to depict Jean Grey in the various costumes she's worn over the years. Beginning at the beginning, this is the very first costume she ever wore in X-Men back in 1963.
This is a labor of love for me. Jean's always been one of my favorite comic book characters (I've got a thing for redheads), and I very much want to do this series justice. So, any constructive criticism you may have for me will make this series that much better.
The model is Heather Carolin. I was compelled to search out pics of her for a base Jean Grey image after seeing the incredible Firestar manips done by Wasmith over in the member's gallery.
p.s. I toyed with the thought of putting seams on the costume, but discarded the idea because I wanted to keep this first one simple. The great thing about the original X-Men uniforms was their simplicity and I felt that adding seams all over the place would clutter the image and contradict the result I was going for. |

| Eight Lantern Corp parallel DC Comics 2008/7/1 20:51 3743 5
ever since the end of the Sinestro Corp War, i have been eagerly waiting to see the other forms of the six remaining lanterns. seven if you count the black lanterns. i have drawn up a member for each lantern corp group and included a different designed lantern aswell.
the green lantern here was thrown together kind of quickly. she has gold hair and always has energy wings showing. i guess i was going for an angelic look.
HATE: i used the white martian from the first JLA story line by Grant Morrison and Howard Porter for the red lantern. i like to call them the Blood Lanterns. my idea is that when someone makes a kill out of pure hate, that is when they are given the red power ring. also what i did was show that when they make their kill, they mark themselves with the blood of their victim in the form of the red lantern logo. the red lantern itself is the exact look from its first appearance in Green Lantern #25.
LOVE: when i first started this drawing, i decided to make the character the same as Starfire, a tamaran. i just don't know if Starfire is the only one. last i heard she was. also i was originaly going to make her outfit similar to the new Star Sapphire look that appeared before the war. but i decided against it. mainly because i couldn't draw it right. the violet lantern is also similar to the one that was shown in Green Lantern. it's sleaker and a bit taller.
FEAR: now this character has a back story. in a recent story line in Superman, the Insect Queen tried to take over the planet, but of course she was defeated by Superman. this character was originaly a hive solider of the Insect Queen and was tossed about and had its wings ripped off during the fight with Superman. Sinestro later found him and saw that he can inspire great fear in others and granted this solider a yellow power ring. immediatly after receiving the ring, Solider always has energy wings on to replace those he lost. he is now a loyal and devoted member to Sinestro and the Sinestro Corp. for the yellow lantern, the handle is about the most noticable difference with a different shape of the body.
GREED: with the orange lantern here, i just wanted to make up any kind of alien. my goal was to show that members of the orange lanterns are so fueled by greed that their main objective is to defeat an opposing lantern member just so that they can get their hands on a fallen lantern's power ring. you can see that i added a string of power rings from other lantern members around his neck. but, if you notice the rings in front of him, there isn't a red power ring. personally i think it would be very difficult for anybody to take away a power ring from the red lanterns. i like what i did with the look of the lantern. making it look like the logo, plus it has a "don't touch" kind of feel.
HOPE: with blue lantern, i wanted to show mainly the difference in the logo. when we first see the blue lanterns, they have a white lined logo on top of a black solid circle. this is the same with a Sinestro Corp memeber and just about everyone else. my idea is to have the good guy lanterns have black outline logos on top of solid white circles. similar to the Green Lanterns. with the bad guy lanterns, this would be the opposite. now the blue lantern itself has the most change in its look. again i wanted the lantern to look like the logo. it may look weird, but it works.
INDIGO: i wish i did the same thing with the other characters that i did with idigo and black. i did the drawing first and then scan and colored them with photoshop. when i began to draw a character for indigo, i wanted something really different. i have this painting of these two owls in my room and thought that was perfect and it turned out to be one of the best free hand drawings i ever did. now i don't know a lot about the indigo lanterns other than they stand for compassion. they have a strange looking uniform. also, is the staff their power ring? i don't know. their lantern is similar to the one i saw in Green Lantern #25.
DEATH: this drawing topps them all. i will put up a single image of him later on. now explainations are in order. recently i heard a rumor from Wizard World Chicago that Kal-L ,from earth-2 who died at the end of Infinite Crisis from a battle with an insane Superboy Prime, might end up leading the black lanterns. with that in mind this image of an undead Kal-L came about. with almost no information about the black lanterns other than them being the dead brought back to life, this is all i could do. the decaying skin is based off of the only image of the black lanterns coming out their graves. now the black lantern Kal-L carries is an original idea i came up with. it has a triangular top and bottom base with an outline of a hand on the sides if you can see it. the chain for a handle was a last minute thing. possibly the best part this lantern.
and there you have it. damn, that took a long time. i hope you guys like what i did. tell me what you think. if you have any questions or any answers for that matter, please let me know.
thanks. |

I did this for one of my boyz in his black book. . . . . | CHESHIRE: IT'S YOUR MOVE ROY. Hisstoryman DC Comics 2008/6/30 22:27 3073 4
Her beauty belies a psychotic rage from a childhood scarred by slavery, violence, and betrayal. She would find love with another troubled youth the Teen Titan Roy Harper aka Speedy. The issue of their passion would be their daughter Lian, which is a source of union and divisiveness between the couple.
Here we find the assassin extraordinaire cornered by her lover and enemy, now called Red Arrow. Is this a prelude to violence or passion?
Note: Tried to work with the lack of lighting in the original picture, in order to try my hand at clothing wrinkles. The base of the uniform received the dodge and burns while the texture is on a separate layer using the "Overlay" mode. The model was an easy pick. Tera Patrick IS Cheshire. I may have placed to many crinkles, but that being said, I think this presents a step up in my work.
As always be honest and rate the pic as you find.

| VALKYRIE Hisstoryman Marvel Comics 2008/6/30 5:17 3780 5
UPDATE: Did a complete redo of the cape, added a texture to it, not sure why I didn't before.
A longtime member of The Defenders, Valk has had two hosts for her divine form. The first was ocialite, Samantha Parrington the second and most famous was Barbara Norriss.
The word Valkyrie comes from, Old Norse Valkyrja "Choosers of the Slain". The king of the gods Wooden (Odin) would send his warrior women to Migard (Earth) in order to collect the souls of the bravest warriors. They would them bring them to Great Hall of Asgard where they would take part in never ending feasts and battles.
The Valkyries according to the myths actually rode on wolves, not horses as they are commonly depicted. I elected to go the horse route for this piece.
Note: This manip started out as Wonder Woman International: Scandinavia, until I remembered that there was one, of a sort. Marvel Comics' Valkyrie. I went through several models until a chance search at Freeones.com brought up Hannah Hilton. After seeing her the choice became a no-brainer. The horse is a Lipizzaner stallion and "Asgard" in the background is Edinburgh Castle. The infamous rainbow bridge come from a clip art drawing that I "Warp Tool-ed" the heck out of and then used the Overlay blend on.
Hope you enjoy it, and please do not be afraid to comment and rate it. I have a thick skin. Model: Hannah Hilton |
