Just something fun here. And who doesn't love a good supergirl. I know I do. Thats of course becuase she is one of my most favorites of all time. And man how time flies, I was looking today and this is the 14th supergirl image I have done. And the 98th image since I every have started making these. Much love for the site. Wanted to share. The model for this one was Tommie Jo. I think it was a good choice. I tried to change the uniform up a bit, darker blues and reds, as well some different smaller details. Artwok is mine, Supergril and characters belongs of course to DC. Take a look let me know here. Thanks!!

Yep lots and lots. Usually each piece has its own layer, and is in a group. Easier to control that way. Usually I edit say the belt group, with the belt base in it, I do the belt whole, then layer mask it off. Then merged visible layers only and turn off everything but the belt, stamp a new layer named merged belt. Then edit textures on my gray, then add color to it, think the belt for example in this one took one base layer, and three color layers to get what I was looking for. So the more detailed the character the more layers I have. My files usually are around 300 Megs up to 1 Gig I have had before. Still worth it I think. Just trying to give insite and help or ideas to anyone who might care to know.

Funny you should mention the Green Lantern, when I had this base model before it was made to SG I did search around and looked at quite a bit of Green Lantern characters. I like to keep it switched up but still love supergirl, so this one went that way. But I think next I will try and do a Green Lantern Character.

A wonderful pic and a great tutorial. I always like your fabric textures. It looks like you go through LOTS of layers before you finish!!!

 Re: Supergirl 14
Forgot to mention I have two copies in the beggining I am working on, one I call my base model. And one is reference model. I work on the base model, and have the reference open at the same time, and try to match what I see on screen for her lights, darks and body. As well wrinkles I use dodge and burn and lots of pen tool. Keeps them clean. I also cut out the model with the pen tool. Keeps her / him clean as well. And I work usually at a pixel size of 3000 pixel range for the image. Working larger helps out a lot, then it gets resized anyway for my images when they go down to size. Seems to help the quality of the image. My starter image is not 3000 pixels a lot of the times to start, so I resize the image first, with software I have. Hope this is helpful and some useful info here.

 Re: Supergirl 14
Clothing, had to practice at that one. But I use a good clean model, I cut the hair, and clean her up first. Then I bump up her Levels for good color and make sure she is toned correctly. The clothing part is all based upon her. I take a sample from a mid tone region on the body, open this in a new window, then desaturate this. Which will give me a mid tone reading of gray that will be the midtone of her. Then its a matter of the pen tool to cut my base grey shapes. Keeps them clean. Most of the time this would involve a layer mask to cut around other pieces that hit. Say for instance her arm in this one hits her body, have to cut this out. Once a base gray its all up to the Dodge and Burn tools for highs and lows. I try to stick closely with the hights and lows that are already there. Make it look like the model, just in gray. From here I add noise to match the clean model, then add some seams and textures as well. Remember a fine black shadow will exist under the clothing. So I make a shadow as well that is black, set to mulitply, the duplicate to set this to color burn and a dark burn orange color. Which usually black shadow is set to 65 or so and orange shadow to 30 or so to give it depth. From here is a matter of coloring the clothing. Trying to go for the same amount of contrast as the model has. Usually comes close but will ned up with a little higher than she is. I use the pen tool a lot as well. I as well write down the process I take for one color in the picture. Say blues, then all the blues will match once I get one good one I like. I have a spiral notebook I have which has hundreds of pages of notes from manips to graphics I work on to flash stuff. All repeatable processes which I write down. I set both my dodge and burn tools to at around 15% each when using them. So I won't go too high lights and too high darks right away without passes. Metals same process same base gray through the image, I just don't add noise to the metal, and I make sure the levels are higher contrast since metal is more shiny reflective. Hope this heps here with some of it.

Yoyr depiction of Supergirl is right on the money. My only question is...How do you make the clothing seem so real?
