So I actually feel like posting one of my drawings here. It's probably the only one I'll post. But here's what I wrote about it on Deviant.

I've been seeing lots of artists do a gray background under their lines, and then shade them. I've always thought this was cool but never got to trying it.
I love Jean Grey (The Phoenix) she's my favorite comic book character of all time. So I wanted to test the gray shading with her. I've had this picture of Angelica Bridges that reminds me of Jean. So I used that as a reference. There is a lot more here than the original pose that Angelica is doing. It really took a life of it's own. I'm going to try out the color masking thing with this tomorrow. It's late now.
But let me know what you think. I personally think my art is getting a more professional look to it. That's often my goal. Don't worry I love to improve and try new stuff so I'm not saying I'm done learning. I'm saying it is getting to what I think I want my art to look like professionally.
Anyway, this is a big fav for me. Can't wait to do more.
The eyes remind me of my hero and one of my favorite artists character eyes (AH!) that makes me want to jump up and down with joy. He's so cool, but It's still my style. Which I'm not really sure what that looks like. lol

Best thing I've ever done!!!!!
...So my art jumped again!
I've been itching to experiment with colors and the way I paint, texture and skin. Grayscale - http://reddera.deviantart.com/art/Caprica-Black-and-white-125235779
I painted it in gray-scale, then did colors over top. That made the basic shading end so much earlier! Then I continued to paint on top of the color and experimented with textures. I created a custom freckle brush for her. I just put her photo next to my canvas so I could really look. I am working on stopping the lazy no-looky-itus and really made sure it looked like the photo.
10 hr total with color. Photoshop CS3, Intuos 3 Wacom Tablet.
This is Tricia Helfer as Caprica Six or just Six the most famous Cylon, from Battlestar Galactica. The best show ever made. Period. |

Edit: I went and fixed the collar bone and the white in the eyes. There was also some color over a few lines I went and fixed.
Morgan Ansland from Darkstalkers the game.

Ok, since the beach thing didn't really work out...except for DD lol.
I decided to do this. If it doesn't work out I can still try out a rain storm...but that requires lots of sheen on the suit. So I hope this works out.
Anyway I like this a lot more.

I was not on drugs, is the answer to what's on everyone's mind. lol I just wanted it to be colorful.

I wanted to try a color suggestion Loish had so this is what came out.
It was to shade with complimentary or opposite colors of the base colors. This was different, but fun.
As for the background I was going to do a mechanics room, but this was a few hour project and I did not want to spend any more on it.
I've got job hunting to do. |

*I did this way back in Feb. Just wanted to post something.
I was board and couldn't sleep last night.
I was just sitting there thinking and this came into my head. I got up and drew the sketch at about 5 am in the morning. I spent today coloring it.
Really this was a fun experiment piece. I did a basic flat colors with no lines over top of the translucent line work.
Then shaded those colors with only the burn tool and the dodge tool. Pretty awesome. Han a lot of fun just kidding around. |

So this is a pencil sketch in my sketch book.
I scanned it in today. Just spent an hour adding more shades, darks and lights. I did not go in and clean the lines up.
My new sketch book is for me to challenge myself.
This is me working on perspective and being dynamic.
So it is practice. The original sketch took about forty minutes.

I went to Florida for a week.
I drew this in the car while we were passing through North Carolina on the way home yesterday.
Thought I'd do something like King Kong but I like Dragons more.
I'm trying to work on more Dynamic work, I wanted this to look like a cover.

*** I can't decide what to do for the background. I was thinking a desert temple that is cracked and burned from the battle. Not sure.... read below before you tell me your idea.
So this popped in my head and I thought it would be a great series of covers.
Basically there are three Jedi, Two women.
At first the man is in love with one but she supposedly dies. He feels her get killed in an attack by the sith so he leaves. After grieving for some time he falls in love with the other woman Jedi.
The Jedi woman didn't die, her life was saved be a Sith and she goes to the Dark side and becomes a Sith lord.
She finds out that her lover did not come to save her or even inquire about her, that he has fallen in love with another.
This is the moment of her return and revenge.
She is victorious and takes pleasure in it.
He is shocked, saddened and in great pain....since he has been betrayed and killed. The woman in the back is his Jedi love too late.
I was thinking about doing a series of these in which the woman Jedi goes to kill the sith and maybe becomes one in the process.
Just so I don't have to say it over and over again, After Luke began a new Jedi academy Jedi were allowed to fall in love and have emotion. They are more gray than extremes.
Jedi, Sith and anything Star Wars belongs to George Lucas.

So David told me (which I wanted him to) that my main problems with art are
*lack of dynamic look
*characters IN their environment
*Full body dynamic action
*room for lettering for covers

So I've been wanting to do a redo and really make it cool and bring it to life.
While waiting for my boyfriend to come over I started this and finished the line work today. (10/31/09)
So this is the line work. I will be erasing the lightning lines and painting it in. There will also be a downpour of rain when I'm done. The background mountains will be foggy and the vision will be blurred by the rain the farther back you go. I have mountains draw all the way to the back to let me know to paint it and fog it out. I will have links to the references on the final color. The model is triple H.

I did all of these as dynamic action practice.
They were done at home on my personal sketchbook.
The Batman in the corner is me practicing a classic picture done by Neal Adams.
The rest are done from photo references that I transformed. Most of them look nothing like the originals.

So I'm taking Art 101....
I know...I know.... It's way below my skill.
But I wanted to go back to the basics and it's actually helping me loosen up. but it's been tough...our first week of "this is how you hold a pencil and this is a gesture drawing" really was tough to bare.
So we had to do five self portraits and then choose one of those drawings and do an impressionistic portrait of it.

So my professor comes up and says I have a problem focusing on all of the detail and I should do something simple...with weird color combos
Professor: "you should do it like Pacosso."
Me: "No I can't, I hate Pacasso... something else"
Professor: Disnify yourself."
Me: (big smile, high pitched voice) "really!"
So this is me as a Disney character.
I had to take a picture with my camera, I'll see If I can scan it somehow.

Didn't sleep last night. This is what I did instead.
Thought it was cool, the body is Agelicia Bridges, I don't know who the face is, the background is from Batman: The dark Knight, the fire is from a forest fire image. The rest is painted.

Ionisys, yes I'm a girl, thanks you :D and thanks Pres, DD wow....thank you so much. got me all teary eyed. Oh and to answer questions, the woman in the window is MJ, the photograph in the back is actually a painting of a picture of my boyfriend and I (we look like MJ and Peter there) the model on the billboard is also MJ. and as for the Baxter Building....I had no idea what that building was. Just thought it looked cool, and was the correct angle.

This started as a sketch in my sketchbook that I did in August.
But I scanned it in and fixed somethings, then painted over it to enforce the effects.
I really love Harry, and the Dresden Files series.
To me out of everything I've read they are some of the best books out there. Most of all they inspire me to draw often. So here is another Harry Dresden doing his thing.
I have more to come of him....lots of half done stuff

Well I said I would get them up, there is still more that I've done recently.
These are all the sketches I did in August, 2010.
There are a lot of made up characters, and figure practice but I will list the fan art characters in order.
top corner: Colored Elayne Trakand from the Wheel of Time (she is colored in with prisma color pencils and soft pastels),
next to her is a preliminary sketch of Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files, below him is another portrait of him in between Karen Murphy and Thomas Raith,
Storm from the X-Men is below three made up characters and in the bottom corner of the page is Tarzan.

The assignment was to create the most creative and best piece of art in Photoshop, showcasing my skills and knowledge of the program.
I was asked to do a Photo-manipulation...this idea was the first thing that came to my head.
