| X-Men Dream Team thestarkiller Marvel Comics 2008/7/12 5:18 3525 5
These are my five personal favorite X-Men. There's actually more manip to this than 3D, but the base image was posed in Poser and textured and rendered in Lightwave. An exceedingly difficult piece for several reasons. For one thing, I discovered my computer's limits, as I could not even LOAD all the figures at once in Lightwave. I had to render the left half with Kitty, Colossus, and Cyclops first. Then, using the same camera angle and lighting, I rendered a second image with the right half of the image containing Wolverine and Phoenix. Psylocke was in there too, next to Jean, but since the pixel count for v4 is higher than the v3 and m3 figures, I couldn't load her in with them.
After the right half was rendered, I had to combine the two images in Photoshop "Parent Trap" style. After that, it was simply a matter of choosing which costumes to use and painting them on.
This image took me four days to complete, so I hope you guys like it. |

batman's cowl, superman's boots and cape, and batman's gloves courtesy of predatron's v3 superhero complete. building by predatron's city streets. batman's cape by orca design studios (pain in the butt to work with, btw). don't remember where the superman costume texture came from. batman's costume texture is a reworking of the gray batgirl texture from petercotton's bundle.
this image took 3 freakin' days to get just right. mainly because of the learning curve with using the cloth room on the cape, which i had never done before. i've spent most of this day working on the stars and clouds in the background and touching up the skin pokethrough on superman.
was it worth it? you tell me |

| Wonder Woman Redux thestarkiller DC Comics 2010/5/14 4:05 5859 8
I decided, after staring at the old Wonder Woman figure I'd put together for countless renderings, that the skin just didn't work for her. So, I decided to throw together something new. This image started out being just a test of the new skin to see what it looked like. It turned into this over the course of about 9 hours.
Also, I'd like to point out, that photoshop is my absolute best friend. I got sick of the lights not doing what I wanted them to, or, in this case, only doing PART of what I wanted it to do; i.e. the gleam in her eyes. It wasn't, however, showing much reflectivity on the metal surfaces, nor was it very bright (except the eye gleam, of course). So, I decided to allow photoshop to help me accomplish the rest.
Let me know what you think, please.

I was playing around with indirect lighting in Poser to see if there was a big enough difference to make it worth using. This is the result. Verdict: NOT WORTH THE WAIT! It took a full 24 hours just to precalculate the indirect lighting, and then another 12 hours to actually render; and it looks NO DIFFERENT than if I'd just used normal lighting. Won't be going through that again. Still, comments are welcome. |

This was one of the unaccounted for Earths on the DC Universe Wiki, so I decided to give it a shot.
In this universe, Superman never came back after Doomsday killed him, and Batman never recovered from Bane breaking his back. Wonder Woman herself, lost her lasso in a battle against Ares and was punished for losing such a powerful gift by having her powers stripped. She trained herself physically to be an athletic match for Batman, and still patrols the streets fighting crime. |

I saw Barbie Griffin in the cookie jar and it caused me to search the interwebs for any pics I could find. Found this one and it just screamed Wonder Woman to me. Of course I had to change her from blonde to brunette, but that was a minor problem. The biggest pain was her boots. They look alright to me, but let me know what you guys think.
Also, for a fourth manip I think I'm progressing nicely. |

| Vima Sunrider thestarkiller Sci-fi 2010/11/27 13:12 3117 1
These Star Wars images I've been doing lately may not be my best work ever, but they hold a special place in my heart because they're some of the only ones I've posted on here that were actually inspired by something instead of just random images meant to keep my skills honed. In the case of Vima, here, I just re-read Tales of the Jedi and, while I enjoyed the story immensely, I found myself more fascinated by Nomi Sunrider's infant daughter and the foretelling that she would one day become a great jedi. So, I took it upon myself to do a little research and, while I did find a description of her appearance and a few of the highlights from her life, I discovered that there is actually very little that has been done with her. In other words, perfect stomping grounds for Star Wars fan fic. Her life takes place somewhere between Tales of the Jedi and Knights of the Old Republic, for those interested. This may become a series, and it may not. I don't wanna say for sure, because every time I do, I lose interest and the images just stop, as was the case with The Erotic Adventures of Wonder Woman.

Update: had to fix the spelling in my description. I accidentally "their" instead of "they're" and that just bugs the hell out of me. |

Did a new Spidey figure, but I still really like the other one I was using, so I decided to go Ultimate with the new one. Expect an Ultimate MJ soon.
p.s. This is just a test render. I was in no way trying to blow any minds with this one, especially since my Ultimate Spidey isn't even finished. Still need the socks to complete the costume. I just wanted a side by side comparison of the two figures.

I made him scrawnier and more wirey, yet toned, although you can't really see the muscle tone through the texture.

This was gonna be the first image in a trilogy of images, each featuring a different character in the foreground and the other two moved to the back. However, it took me so damned long and Poser crashed so many freakin' times trying to render this thing that I'm sick of looking at the three of them together. For what it's worth, let me know what you think. I pretty much just gave up and took what I could get. |

| The White Archer thestarkiller Fantasy 2010/5/11 2:22 2164 2
Know, also, oh Prince, that during the years when the Cimmerian trampled armies beneath his feet, others walked the Hyborean lands who were as deadly as he. One such warrior was a woman known simply as the White Archer. Silent and deadly as the serpent god, Set's, evil minions, she sold her bow to the highest bidder, fighting for anyone who could make good on their promises of riches and luxury. Many men she took to her bed; leaving the penniless with broken hearts and the rich with slit throats and empty purses by morning's light. It would be foolish to think that, in a world so small, she did not cross paths with the future barbarian king, though she seldom liked the outcome of such meetings. At least, not nearly as much as Conan.

| The Secret of Skaro thestarkiller TV and Movies 2008/4/15 4:37 2257 5
I did this image a long time ago on a whim and it sparked an idea for a story about the Doctor and Rose traveling to Skaro, homeworld of the Daleks, at a point in their history before the Daleks had been created, only to find out that the Daleks had stolen timelord technology in order to travel back and ensure their own genesis. I never wrote the story, but if I ever do, I've got a pretty cool cover image for it.
Once again, can't remember where I got this stuff. I do know that in all my searching I've only found a handful of Tardis figures and only one set of Daleks, and they were all on the same site. If anyone happens to know where these figures came from, please let me know so I can give proper credit. |

| The Punisher thestarkiller Marvel Comics 2008/4/23 20:50 2379 4
This took surprisingly little time to set up. I actually spent more time in Photoshop with this image that I did in Poser.
Predatron's City Streets for the alley M3 Alligator Coat T3 Pants (can't remember who did them) and finally, Punisher texture by me. Yes, by ME! My very first personally done texture. I took a black background, added the Punisher skull from the movie, put in a film grain effect for cloth texture, and a little gausian blur to cover up the fact the the resolution of the skull was much, much smaller than the texture needed to be. I took lessons from petercotton's bundle on how to pull off an effective bump map to give the illusion of folding cloth, modified a trans map that I have and voila. . .instant Punisher (ok, so not instant. more like several hours worth of work Punisher, but instant sounded better)
let me know what you think for my first attempt. I am no longer a texture virgin. |

| The Man of Tomorrow thestarkiller DC Comics 2010/10/13 16:19 1988 0
Thank God DC gave us so many different titles for a Superman image over all these years with the various books that have been in print; otherwise, every one would just be titled "Superman", and that would get a bit confusing.
Update: I didn't like the color tone of this as the Superman Layer didn't quite match the background. Went back into the project and corrected it so that the images are blended better and are a bit more realistic looking. |
