| Iron Mess VagabondX Marvel Comics 2008/5/11 18:50 1912 5
Saw Iron Man yesterday and was super pumped during the movie to do a picture of him. But, as I knew it would, the inspiration faded as soon as I left the theatre. I didn't want to just give up on it so I did this of his 3rd armor suit. Although I added the hip disks from a later version just because I like them. I do not know why. I kept the colors flat in homage to the nostalgic look which is also why he's goofily waving at the fans. |

| Green Hornette VagabondX TV and Movies 2008/5/11 18:48 2504 3
Not a great drawing or idea but I don't have much of either anymore. I think there have been a couple female Green Hornets in the comic but this is my take on it anyway. Tried using my old style of shading with the dodge and burn tools. Oh well... |

| Family Portrait VagabondX Other Comics 2008/5/7 0:05 2349 8
This sad effort is a shot of The Tick and his children. Yes, you heard me, the Tick has children. Or sort of has children. See, I bought an old Tick comic in which our hero apparently got hit by a Cloning ray which produced four other 'Ticks'. The Tick responded to this by assuming he was a mother and hilarity ensued. From left to right we have:
Quasi-Tick Proto-Tick(brown guy) THE Tick Dupli-Tick Primi-Tick
Oddly enough, I had read once that Ben Edlund's first design of The Tick had him brown and furry so I can only assume the Proto-Tick guy is the first incarnation that never made it to the actual comic. At least until the cloning ray. |

| In brightest day... VagabondX DC Comics 2008/4/24 21:26 2438 5
Would you believe this is the FIRST time I've done a finished pic of a solo Green Lantern? I've done JLA group shots with GL but for some reason I had never done a solo shot. This is also the first time that I inked a whole picture in photoshop. The only thing done on paper for this one was the pencil sketch. I know there are anatomical problems but I'm really psyched with how the color turned out. |

| Shadow Storm VagabondX Other Comics 2008/4/20 22:14 1998 2
This character is from a short story by Mickey Zucker Reichert in an anthology simply called 'Superheroes'. Its a pretty good story about a litle girl who's parents are recently divorced and who now lives with her mother and new 'evil stepfather'. She finds a comic of this character at her real fathers house and hides it in her room. She becomes convinced that her real father is the secret identity of Shadow Storm(I know its almost exactly the name of Cobra's ninja supreme but in the authors defense I get the feeling she honestly had no idea.). Its got a good happy ending that is sufficiently mysterious to leave you wondering if he was indeed the superhero. The only part I didn't care for was that ,as in many cases with literature and the media, the abusive stepfather is portrayed as 'religious' because the girl has to hide the comic from him since he, "...saw sacrilege in any but bible stories." Anyway, I liked the character and the story so I tried a drawing. The only descriptives in the story are that he is all in red, has a cape/gloves/boots, has two S's on his chest and the only part of his body visible are his eyes. One cool thing from the story is that he can pull the S's off of his chest and they can form themselves into whatever he needs at the moment. Swords, clubs, etc.
This is also one of those, 'Dang, I haven't drawn anything in a while and I really want to but I don't have a good idea so I'll try and throw something together quickly', drawings. |

| Wonder Woman VagabondX DC Comics 2008/4/8 22:56 2718 7
Just finished reading a pretty good Wonder Woman novel and along with that and Cathryn being such a big fan of her too I wanted to do a shot of her. I still don't like the 'uniform' she wears so I designed one myself. I can't figure out if I like this picture or not. I like aspects of it and dislike others. Its hard to see past the flaws that I know are there. |

| Spaceghost VagabondX TV and Movies 2008/4/3 22:56 3168 10
Alex Toth was a genius at character design. Spaceghost was one of the best ones he did. I wanted to do more of a serious shot of him rather than the humorous 'Coast to coast' persona. I was pretty pleased with this one almost all the way through it. It wasn't until the end of the coloring that something went wrong. I'm not sure if its his energy blasts, the background or the cape and cowl(if not all three) but something just isn't right. Or it could be something completely different that my conscious mind just isn't catching.
*After some of the great suggestions by fellow artists I fiddled with this one a bit. I like this new one. |

Found an old video from 1949 in which Clayton Moore played Zorro! The guy who was the Lone Ranger as Zorro!Cool huh? I hear that it was this appearance that got him the LR role.
I've always liked Zorro so I tried to draw the cover. On the left is the barebones pencil drawing and on the right is the same after some photoshop work. |

| Cutesy nonsense. I apologize in advance. VagabondX Original Characters 2008/2/17 19:23 6476 5
Like the title says, this is pure cutesy nonsense. Basically just a couple chibi's(is that the right term?) of my wife Cathryn and me. I have a mental drawing block right now so I thought I would do something sort of mindless to try and work it out. |

It was suggested to me after my buff Spirit drawing that I do one of the Lone Ranger so I gave it a shot. Couldn't have him without Tonto though. Stayed mostly with the original costume but made them a little more muscular. |

| Be sure and read the description. VagabondX TV and Movies 2008/2/5 18:21 2283 5
Apparently there were several episodes of the Tick animated series that were never made. One of which, entitled "The Tick vs Skull Canada" sounded really funny. Here is a synopsis:
?The Tick vs. Skull Canada introduces a new villain, The Bald Skull, who is the leader of a small nation called Skull Canada which is on the border of Canada and Michigan. At the beginning of the episode, the Bald Skull (who has no skin on his face, so he looks like a skull but he wears a toupee) steals the President's face. Tick and Arthur join up with American Maid to try to go to Skull Canada to get it back. Once there, they of course get separated. Tick gets involved with a group of revolutionaries who are led by The Moose (actually 2 men in a moose costume; 1 in front and 1 in back) but the back end of The Moose ws captured by the Bald Skull and is imprisoned in the Skull Canadian palace prison. Tick becomes the rear end of the Moose and rallies the revolutionaries to fight (insert rear end of moose jokes here) Arthur, meanwhile, gets captured and put in prison with the real moose's rear end. American Maid manages to infiltrate the palace, but once there she has to face...Skull Canadian Maid, her evil twin sister.
I even have a line from this one; "Hey, Bald Skull--you can't cover up all that bald ugly with a toupe?...you need a whole FACE-PE?!" (The Tick, of course)?
Anyway, a fellow artist on Deviantart suggested I do this pic. So here it is. American Maid vs her evil twin sister Skull Canadian Maid. |

| Super buff Spirit VagabondX Other Comics 2008/2/5 18:17 1993 3
Yes, yes, I know The Spirit isn't this muscular. Hold your horses and let me e'splain. No there is too much. Let me sum up.
I've always liked Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT. Just as 90% of all comics fans do. And I've always wanted to do a drawing of him but the problem that has confronted me is that he's been done by the greats. Starting with the master Eisner himself, all the way down to the present day with another master Darwyn Cooke and, starting I think with issue 13 of this new series, Mike 'Hugely Underrated' Ploog. I knew I could never come anywhere near the level of any of those guys so I just went for fun and decided to do a super buffed up Spirit. Enjoy. |

| Big Blue VagabondX Original Characters 2008/1/22 14:29 2238 3
Basically just me wanting to draw a cool pic related to my favorite NFL team the New York Giants. Even though they aren't playing great right now.
Updated the pic after finding and pasting an actual logo on his chest. The one I did just looked too shoddy.
*Ok it is now January of 2008 and these same Giants are preparing for the Superbowl so I have to amend the 'not playing very well' part. Yeah! If only they had made it last year or next year instead of this year.

| Oh yeah? You and what army? VagabondX Original Characters 2008/1/18 23:12 2225 3
"This army."
Just an image that popped into my head when I thought of that old cliche.
And I think I'm physically incapable of taking my time on a drawing anymore. Which really sucks. |

| The Mighty Penguin VagabondX Original Characters 2008/1/11 15:15 2446 10
This guy is The Mighty Penguin. Super strong, invulnerable, very mean. Better than explaining why he's called the penguin here is an exchange between him and a generic person who wonders the same thing:
Generic person: So, you call yourself the Mighty Penguin?
MP: Yes.
GP: Do you have penguin powers?
MP: No.
GP: ....did you somehow get your powers from a penguin?
MP: No.
GP: Are you similar to a penguin at all?
MP: Well...I can't fly.
GP: Ah I see...Then why do you call yourself The Mighty Penguin?
MP: I like penguins.
GP: Ah.
MP: They're cute.
GP: Yes, yes they are.
Anyway, I thought that would be funny and I thought it would also be funny if I made him extra mean. Nobody expects a guy called The Mighty Penguin to be very mean. Oh and I put the 'mighty' in front since DC probably holds the copyright to just 'The Penguin'. |

| Batman cloak study VagabondX DC Comics 2007/12/22 19:17 2109 4
I struggle greatly with drawing draped cloaks and fabrics. Specifically Batmans cloak in his frequently used brooding pose. I think this one turned out ok. Especially since the actual drawing is only about two inches high. |

| Anyone remember.... VagabondX TV and Movies 2007/12/20 23:40 2291 7
Defenders of Dynatron City? It was an EXTREMELY shortlived comic book and cartoon. Actually, now that I think about it, I believe it was based on a video game but I'm not sure. I liked the characters in it alot and I had been meaning to do a pic of them for a long time. I'll admit right away that I used the cover of the first comic as an inspiration for the scene. Some things about it I'm quite happy with like the robot pile they are standing on and the doggy. And some parts of it make me shudder. Like the lady in the back with the electricity 'ears' and the monkey guy and....well there are just too many to list. But it isn't like there is any chance of me ever being pleased with my own work anyway. :) |

| Last Son VagabondX DC Comics 2007/12/15 21:41 2003 5
Martian Manhunter has a new costume in the comics that I think is pretty cool. Not to mention a sad origin of being the last surviving Martian. Or not. I seem to remember a storyline with some evil White Martians so I guess he's not the complete last. The last benevolent Martian I guess. |
