for a custom avatar you need to make 2000 posts or win one of the many regular contests put on by Heromorph, or donate $15 and recieve a custom avatar, a custom rank, and a gold membership as gifts for your donation (gold members also get other perks)

At 2101 posts you will recieve a custom Rank.
