Actually the article appears to be more a historical listing than ranking or choice debate so 1st off, way to poke the hornet's nest, DW! 
As far as that list goes... quite informative for those new to the debate but including Jacqueline Lopez??!! WTH? If you're going to just throw fans in crappy costumes on the list... AT LEAST show me some good cosplay work like Ya Ya Hahn's Wonder Woman!

Dead on with the facepalm... I felt like I could easily have made the same pose when I read the news! Personally, I'm not waiting for Gadot. 
Yet... is anyone surprised by this terrible casting? Have you seen some of the choices Warner Bros have made for Supes and Bats??!! I still think they're already looking awfully stupid for passing on Whedon to write and direct.
