Do a total reboot. If they could do it with Batman after (ACK) Tim Burton started it down the road to ruin, they can do it with Superman.
First they need to find an actor... as in someone that can actually act.
Second, screw Christopher Reeves. He sucked as Superman. He had dark hair and was tall. Act? no. Looked Super? No. Was Mid-western as Kent? He was a pussy. Sorry he broke his neck and all, but his real claim to fame was brought about by the fact he made a better boo-hoo poster boy for anyone wanting more money for their pet research project that has no chance of helping anyone for 20-30 years at best.
Third they need to do what they did for Spiderman I and use an actual comic book storyline for the basis of the movie script. I would suggest John Byrnes' reboot from the 80s "Man of Steel". Might need a little more umph in the action department, but that is easy to add.
