I would guess that this person is so desperate to be associated with real talent, that he does not realize how arrogant he comes across.
At least he took the time to explain, that this is why he sees it the way he sees it, so this is the way it is, live with it point of view.
Are you being extremely gracious in an impossible battle or a niceguy pushover?
