Depending on which browser is being used, there are settings that can either help solve (or cause) some the image loading problems. For example you can have your browser set to refresh all content every time you visit or refresh a page, which is bad for HM because of the reptitious images used on the site (all those smilies, avatars, pictures of Lady HM, etc.).
Of course you might just have a sucky internet connection, or a sucky hard drive with little space for image caching, or a sucky clock speed, or your computer might just be sucky in general.
