It's with a sadness in my heart that I found out that our fellow Heromorpher and Artist Android has passed away last 12 of August at only 47 years old.
So, annual checkup? ummm, check in? not totally sure this is even gonna be much more than a stealth check.
Basically, it's been one hell of a long journey. One that involved a conscious effort to focus on the positive and let go of the negative. One of discovering that family isn't always relatives. One that has shown me great joys in becoming a father, a student, a friend, and soon a husband. And in rediscovering all that I sacrificed to survive.
This journey has me on the road to becoming a translator. A dungeon master back after a 25 year hiatus. And a teacher to those who are currently traveling down that familiar path.
As to art. I do still drop pencils every now and then. The last piece I did was a follow along with Pub Draw on Critical Role's channel. I can say I have a new found love for Copic Markers now.
I see nobody missed me. In case anyone was wondering, I haven't really been around heromorph much. Haven't really done anything with art in over two years either. I just lost my inspiration and work leaves me mentally drained. It's hard dealing with idiots all the time.
I was trying to get back into the art. I wanted to. Friggin' longed for it. Trying to find my muse. And DW was helping me with that. Kept trying to give me ideas, sharing his ideas, and showing me his works in progress. His passing hit me pretty hard, so I guess I just kind of regressed back into that funk.

I dropped off the radar involuntarily, LOL. My computer met an untimely death and took some hopes, dreams, and opportunities with it. I have been going stir crazy trying to live without my art but I'm back now. It's been a series of setbacks but hopefully that is behind me and I'm looking forward to the future. See y'all around.

I'm still alive and out here. I had a mild stroke in 2014, and after getting over that I have mostly focused on astro and nature photography. Truth to tell, I sort of got tired of all the art that was being generated by software... me being a photomanip kind of guy I appreciated the hard work involved in transforming a photo into a sexy superheroine. I still look in from time to time, usually as a guest.

No one asked, but since I'm back I'll tell you where I was. We had a baby in 2008 and that made it very hard to keep up with the hobby. Then the MCU happened. I liked everything I was seeing on the movie screen way more than anything I was doing in Photoshop. I just lost the desire to manip. But when I heard Alison Brie was being sought for She-Hulk, it came back to me. I know I'm rusty, and I didn't devote hours to it like I used to, but I hope you guys like it.
I like it too but it's not a super-villain/hero origin in any way IMHO...
But I also think it's a good thing all the attention is getting and no one can deny that it's a refreshing look at the character, although the "real" Joker is insane, completely bananas without the need to justify why he does what he does. We just know he's the Jokes and no other explaination is required. And that's one thing that made not beleive the movie Jokes is the real deal. And I hope they keep it as it is and due to the sucess of the Joker, don't start bringing Batman and the rest of the comics universe into it... We already have a internet theory about Bruce running around that I hope no director think about it... no matter how interesting could be in a movie...
I am curious as to the opinions here on whether The Joker is a super-villian origin story, or just Beautiful Mind meets Taxi Driver with face paint. Don't get me wrong, I think the movie is great and deserving of all the attention it is getting, I'm just wondering if this will impact the future of super hero movies in general.
Occupation: Artist, Illustrator, Cartoonist, Caricaturist and Art Teacher.Heromorph Profile: WLine
"The art of Life in painted screens or graphites made.
Copyrighted comics and the most various caricatures.
This is my art. This is Time for Art!" (Wanderline Freitas)
Lady Heromorph:For this month's Artist Spotlight, we have the multi-talented, imaginative and prolific WLine, who cames from the sunny lands of Brazil!
Ok! Let’s start this… Tell us a little bit about you. Introduce yourself to the Heromorph Community.
WLine: Hello. I’m Wanderline Freitas, an artist, illustrator and Brazilian caricaturist.
Lady Heromorph:I know you have some published comic stories, both on paper and online. Do you have a favorite one?
WLine: I really like my novel Amigos, Amantes, Amores (Friends, Lovers, Loves), published in 2010 that I also released online, among other works from me, at my blog: Hora de Ler HQ Warning: Contains Adult Content!
Lady Heromorph:What about a favorite character? And why?
WLine:My favorite character is Eni Gimá (something like R. Iddler, get it?), I believe that’s because he is the first character I created back in 1996. I talk in detail about his creation in this video:
Creating Eni Guimá
It’s funny stories about a clumsy detective and he is also my character with more stories, 3 published so far and a lot more already finished.
Lady Heromorph:How long have you drawn/written comics?
WLine:I’ve been drawing comic stories since 1997. I had one of my characters, WinBlack, published in 2007 in the Brazilian comic book Brado Retumbante. You can find some of his short stories by clicking the following image:
Lady Heromorph:Do you have any kind of training in drawing/ art/ writing?
WLine:No. I am what we call around here, a self-taught person. I used to say that my teachers were the comic books, because of them I started to draw and wanted to tell my own stories.
Lady Heromorph:I know that comics are not your only passion, art-wise…
You’re the man with like seven instruments, you draw, you sculpt, you write, you have your own Youtube Channel...
Is there anything you can’t do?
WLine: I like this question. I often say that I don’t want to know everything but I always want to learn something.
I’m restless and I like to create stuff, and I can’t work on only one thing related to art because to me, everything is art so I’m always trying new things and learning in the process.
Lady Heromorph:What tools do you normally use? Notepad? Computer? The old pencil and paper?
WLine: Usually, I start with the pencil and paper. Then I decide if that piece of art (no matter if its a new comic story or an illustration, a caricature, or a cartoon…) will look better to finish freehand the traditional way or if I scan it and give it the digital treatment.
Lady Heromorph:What you think about this digital era we live in where almost everything can be done with a computer? Drawing, color, etc...
WLine:I think it’s cool that some art can be done with digital tools, like comics. The only downside I see is that the original from that art is lost forever, I mean, that art is just a digital file that can be printed and replicated into a bunch of new originals.
Lady Heromorph:Do you still recall the first comic you read? What are you favorite characters?
WLine:I do. It was a Spiderman comic that my mother bought me in the early 80s.
That was when I started reading and collecting everything I could get my hands on: Turma da Mônica ( a Brazilian children's comic, very famous around here), Spiderman, Batman, Tex and Ken Parker (Italian westerns).
I still like those characters these days and I keep buying them but now I only keep the ones with stories I like. The rest, I pass them along (the space on the shelf is getting smaller… ).
The only comic book I still buy to keep and collect is Julia Kendall, Adventures of a Criminologist by Giancarlo Berardi. She is physically inspired by Audrey Hepburn, one of my favorite actresses, you know?
Lady Heromorph:What about movies? Do you have any favorites?
WLine:A lot! I’m a huge fan of cinema but I’m only going to mention some movies from before Netflix with their huge selection to choose from…
So, my favorites: Os Trapalhões (Brazilian comedy group similar to the Marx Bros), Once Upon a Time in the West, Unforgiven, The Outsiders, The Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, and finally Batman by Tim Burton.
Lady Heromorph:What about artists you admire? From the comics or any other medium: Book author, sculptor, whatever…
Do you have anyone that inspire you?
WLine:Frank Miller, Will Eisner, Ivo Milazzo, Eduardo Rizzo, Mike Mignola, Alan Moore, Frank Cho, the brazilians Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá, Gustavo Duarte, Gabriel Anfrade Jr., Wendell Cavalcanti (who recently got hired to draw The Phantom)...
All of these I admire their art and inspire me.
Lady Heromorph:Do you have any advice to beginners at learning art or comics or any other kind of art?
WLine:Observe, sketch, create, don’t copy and try to make something with your art that nobody else does, I mean, find that trait that makes your style unique, because the market has already enough similar styles.
Speaking about the course we are going through during the learning, I really like a phrase credited to the artist Hokusai that says:
From the age of six I had a mania for drawing the shapes of things. When I was fifty I had published a universe of designs. but all I have done before the age of seventy is not worth bothering with. At seventy five I'll have learned something of the pattern of nature, of animals, of plants, of trees, birds, fish and insects. When I am eighty you will see real progress. At ninety I shall have cut my way deeply into the mystery of life itself. At a hundred I shall be a marvelous artist. At a hundred and ten everything I create; a dot, a line, will jump to life as never before.”
Lady Heromorph:To end this little chat, do you take commissions? I mean, do you accept work from anywhere in the world? Like, if a Heromorphian from the States wants a personalized drawing from you… Is that something you consider? And if that is possible, how can they contact you?
that is really sad news. in the time i've been a member here he and i have had only limited interaction.nevertheless he left a real great impression on me through his art and genuine personality, my condolences to his family and friends ~whiz~
This Hall of Fame is a bit diferent than usual. As many of you know we have lost one of our own recently, so this is our way to pay tribute to the friend and artist he was...
I'm sure some of you have some stories with him as well, so after you read the following Hall of Fame, please, we invite YOU to share one story about Dark Wanderer in this thread: Farewell Dark Wanderer... Or make an image dedicated to him and share it at the Gallery like Halcon89 already did: EN HOMENAJE A DW
HALL of FAME
A place of special tribute to Heromorph's most legendary, talented and gifted artists
He was a friend. And a Teacher. And the driving force behind the Secret Santa and some of the best challenges we had here at HeroMorph in the last few years.
He really loved Secret Santa and this site. So much that when he become a moderator, he made it his personal quest to host the best Secret Santa every year.
He was the guy that made sure that every participant got its own gift, filling in for the no-shows and overdue entries in order that everyone had a gift on Secret Santa posting day.
BUT...
He was so much more than that.
Long before he was a moderator, he was already one of the first to welcome new artists to the site. And to help them grow and evolve by sharing his knowledge with them, leaving constructive and helpfull comments on their art...
Although in recent years he was mostly known as a 3D guy, that was not all he was as an artist.
He was also a skilled manipper and a 2Der artist...
And as you can see by his personal rank, he was very proud of those days when he mastered the way to create metalic textures on manips.
Take a look at the work present in his gallery and you can see all his talent!
For Dark Wanderer's many contributions, friendship and simpathy to this community, we'd like to show our appreciation as we add him to our list of legendary members in the HeroMorph'sHall of Fame!
Barely over 40--WAY too soon to go. But, he's in a better place now

Terrible news. He was a great artist, a genuinely friendly and supportive person, and one of the pillars of this community. He will very definitely be missed. 41 is far, far too young. Requiescat in Pace, my friend.
This is very sad news. DW will be missed greatly by all of us. He was more than just a terrific artist. He was always helpful, funny, supportive and generous. He was also one of the most committed and valuable moderators and contributors to Heromorph. My deepest sympathies and condolences to all his friends and family.
