Okay, I'm assuming many of you have seen this trailer by now. So, any guesses as to what the hell it is? As a teaser, it's quite successful, because I have NO IDEA what the movie is about (or even what it's called), but I'm dying to see it. http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808/

More here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CloverfieldLooking at it I am thinking another Godzilla movie. The problem with the studio keeping it a 'secret' and creating all the false hype is that they might have made a crap film and are trying to compensate.

I too saw the trailer before the Transformers movie. IMHO This short trailer was far more enjoyable than the entire Godzilla does NY movie.

Nope, I disagree. I think it is Giant Robot time, time for Anime to recognize it's roots. Therefore, here is this class' reading list for the semester: Mazinger Z Grendizer Dangard Ace Getter Robo Macross Southern Cross But, who knows? I could be wrong, this is a guess.

from what I read the movie is about the reaction of a small group of people to a monster attacked in NY. so why do you all think this has to do with an existing monster. The monster sounds more like it is a plot device and secondary character for this movie rather then the star so I betcha it is some generic monster.

It looks like it is almost shot "Blair Witch" style... which could be its downfall. But I did like the statue of liberty's head rolling down the street... poor NY... when are they going to pick on California? I would say Texas... but there isn't anything here except a bunch of hippies and paranoid politicians.
But I did like the trailer/teaser... very interesting.

The whole "lion" thing was brought about by people mis-hearing a line in the trailer. A guy is heard to saw "It's alive! It's huge!" and some people thought they heard "It's a lion! It's huge!" Also, that line may discount the giant robot theory. I don't think it's Godzilla, primarily because the rights to the North American Godzilla franchise rest with Sony Pictures and this one is funded/produced by Paramount. Also, the website www.slusho.jp is apparently connected in some way to this production, but www.ethanhaaswasright.com and www.ethanhaaswaswrong.com are not (it was previously reported that they were, but JJ Abrams himself has stated that they are not -- it's now believed they're related to M. Night Shyamalan's new one).

I'm glad that there are other people as confused as I am about this one. I saw it before Transformers also, and I told my wife about it and she is a marketing professor and she said that by not mentioning the name of the movie that they have created a very successful marketing hype since now everyone is talking about this nameless "giant monster movie". I suggested that it might be a Godzilla sequel or possibly even Jurassic Park 4, but I'm probably wrong. It would be cool if it was another Japanese monster like Mothra or Rodan though.

Why does it have to be a Godzilla monster... those are all worn out and old... I would like to see a new monster of sorts... A giant Lion did sound cool... Or a giant Gary Coleman....

hey, I went to a movie insider site and supposedly it is a monster film, but with a Rashomon twist as it's about a monster attack from a number of different points of view. we'll have to see in about six months or so.

Well, that Abrams fellow said in a short interview that he wanted an american monster (although he was inspired by the japanese monster flicks). Also, judging from the teaser poster, it appears as if the monster is amphibeous, huge and have claws. Some people hoped it would be a Ctulhu movie, but I doubt that. Although that would fit the description and was made by an american, I think they are going with something new. The low budget is a bit worrying though. So expect a big handpuppet thingy as the moster. Or maybe they will borrow a page from Lost and never show it.

I heard it is going to be a giant Chupacabra.
Also... who said it is low budget? The Statue of Liberty's head rolling down the street didn't look all that low budget to me. I am just assuming they are giving it a low budget film look to add to the movie. But like I said before, an entire movie shot without a steady cam is annoying.

I can't remember where I read it -- possibly Mainia.com -- but I did read that the budget was under $50 million. Which WOULD make it low-budget for Hollywood.

I think it might be a remake of Gorgo. It's not Godzilla, that's a given.
