Hmmm... So, I got to work today and there was a left over conversation in our "Gold Members(no, not Austin Powers)" shout box between Chilly and Thayne. Chilly brought up a web page/forum that is hot linking all of our images. I am a little pissed off..... that I have only found two of my images there.
Anyway, I just thought I would post the site and get your thoughts on what they are doing there. OH, also, can anyone tell me (us) what language the site is in? I would like to translate some of it to see what they are saying. OCP sends me enough stuff in Portuguese (I hope that is right) that I am pretty sure that it isn't Portuguese... but hell, who knows.

Thats really F'ed up! I have never told someone that they couldn't post one of my pieces on a different site as long as they asked, they Turd Burglers are just stealing our work and posting it as their own. I think we should have Voltron join their group as punishment

What immediately occurs to me, doesn't this increase HM site bandwidth? Lots of sites on teh Internet disallow hotlinking for this reason.

Can't we block hotlinking?
I am not a computer wizard so that is why I am wondering?
If not can't we tell then to remove the images?

our old server had a block hotlinking as a option. When I set up the site at this server It wasn't a choice that I had. I'll check when I get home.

But keep in mind this is the internet, no matter what you do someone is going to take it and post it. well unless you suck.

I don't really mind seeing my pics posted in other places, but the fact that these jacksticks are hotlinking to half our image gallery kinda pisses me off.

Checking that forum I found other site with a bunch of images from us, http://atadolfo.webng.com/ , also with an account here. this guy isn't hotlinking but what really pisses me off is both this guys are members here and they didn't even bother to ask permission.

Well, since the offenders are HM members why not ask them to remove the pics and ask them to stop doing it? Also, if they continue to do so after a warning then just ban them outright and block them from resigning up under different accounts. You could see if hotlinking can be blocked as well. Always ask permission first people.

JR - you probably only found two of your images because most of your stuff is in the Members gallery. Their links wouldn't work when it needs member verification.
(perhaps a solution is to make the whole site members only... it sosts nothing to be a member)

Yes, I am long used to the fact that images get stolen, and not even credited... but stealing the HM site bandwidth is another thing entirely! Grrrrr

well I moved all of the galleries around so that none of their hotlinks to heromorph work.

all of the image numbers and gallery numbers are now different.

so all of their links are pointless.

and I banned 2 users.

Hey! I found this really cool site filled with foreign text and lots of little boxes with red Xs in them...

There's still a lot of "show-cased" artwork there; much of it of Heromorpher origins.
I even saw 2 by JR... well actually the same one twice.

we will probably in the future add the changing of the galleries into our bi-annual cleaning day procedure from now on until our new server gets a good hotlink protection system for us to use.

After reading this post and checking out these sites and some others, I've decided that using logos or banners on our work is the only way to at least maintain our credit on our pics. I did this for a while and stopped but it looks like the only way to keep someone else from claiming my work as their own is to resume. For those pieces that did have a logo or some kind of label, they are still there. These folks are too lazy to crop out any IDs. Admittedly, some of these folks aren't claiming ownership, but they aren't giving credit either.

I t works sometimes, obviously with hotlinking they can't change the image.
But I have found lots of my images that have been cropped, and when I used to put a signature on images I would often find it painted over.

I guess we could start using watermarks, but I do find them to be obtrusive sometimes.

speaking of Watermarks if anyone is interested, I made up some quick Heromorph.com watermarks if people want to use them in psd format.

I personally am not a fan of watermarks on my stuff but for those of you that would like this option here it is.

We should start hotlinking all of their stuff, which is really our stuff, back here to kill their bandwidth for a while.
