Not at all related to HM. Well, maybe a little with the monsters... but has anyone seen it?

I saw it last night and I thought it was awesome. A little gory... but awesome none the less. Not to mention just beautifully shot. And I don't normally enjoy subtitled movies. (Here come the "why because you can't read" jokes)
I think it deserves the 3 oscars that it won.

i saw it the week it came out. it was beauitful cinemia and a great storyline. gory isn't the word for it: it makes Sin City look like a Disney movie. it deserves all the good awards and critiques it gets.

I couldn't agree more. It was a beautiful movie with gorgeous imagery, interesting characters, and an engrossing story. It's too bad that movies like this get overlooked by the general public in favor of movies like "The Hills Have Eyes 2" and "Roadhogs".

Interestingly, I saw this film the day after seeing "Bridge to Terabithia" and it was interesting to see the two movies in juxtaposition. Both dealt with fantasy worlds created/imagined by children who were dealing with difficult realities, but the movies couldn't have been more different.

"Terabithia" was bright and overly simplistic, with cartoonish characters and cardboard cutout relationships. It took complex and difficult topics (alienation, death, etc.) and boiled them down to safe, "after-school special" resolutions that left little to the imagination, although it did so in a pleasant and touching manner. Not surprisingly, it was made by Disney.

"Labyrinth" presented a dark world populated with brutal characters and disturbing images, full of shadows and constantly shifting shades of grey. Yet, at the same time, it was full of lush, vivid colors and images of great beauty, like a fairytale brought to life. And, in the end, it's inconclusive resolution left you with a sense of wonder and hope. It is a movie meant to be seen on the big screen.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed "Terabithia" very much and felt that it was a good family movie, but it couldn't hold a candle to "Labyrinth". If you get a chance, definitely see it in a theatre.

I saw the case for this at Blockbuster yesterday. I know next to nothing about it. Which is why it sat on the shelf. The fact that I've heard the name and seen a couple screen shots has erked my curiosity tho. So...... What's it about? Why should I rent it?

In my opinion, almost every one should see this movie. Though I said every one should see it, a lot of people won't allow themselves this wonderful story because of the subtitles, don't make that mistake. It is however more of an adult's fairytale. Mind outta the gutter people it?s not that kinda movie! As far as why should you rent it? Well. . . The story and cinematography work together to suck you in, and makes you feel like you're in the middle of the movie. You can feel the cold and the torment, the moments of love and comfort, and can almost taste the grape at the great table. In one word I'd describe it as Captivating.
Peace be the Journey,

I own the movie. It is great. beautiful story and cinimatagraphy. Hmm Thayne, maybe one of the best ways to think of it is think Labyrinth, but with a much darker under tone, replace the muppets with CGI. But a little girl creates a fantasy world in wich she escapes the life she is forced to live under her step father in 1940's Spain.

We aren't the movie cliff notes... just rent it and soak in all the beauty and gore. I saw it again a few nights ago... still a really good flick!
