Despite picking the casafree_hawk theme as my default from the wee menu at the bottom of the home page, the site seems determined that I use the new vista_K theme.

Unfortunately something in this theme seems to cause the site to run a lot slower for me (on both my home and work PCs) and has caused IE to hang on more than one occasion.

I know I can use firefox at home but at work I am limited to IE (corporate environment)

Any thoughts or suggestions (clean ones!)?

I'm seeing the same thing. Can't use FireFox at work (stupid network admins). The casafree_hawk is the one I'm trying to use too. Tried several different themes, all a bit slow. Maybe all the folks out there experimenting with the site changes.

I also can't access the profile section to try and fix my avatar...

Maybe I will give up for a while, and let things get sorted out.

I strictly use Firefox here at my home, as I completely hate that "turtle fast" IE. I have just recently changed my avatar, and the default scheme, without any hassles.

The above theme was made for firefox without a doubt, all the templates for the theme do have IE templates as well though. Due to the sites use of transparencies and multiple layers, using a version of IE 5.5 or less is strongly not recommended. If for what ever reason your work does not allow for upgrading to IE 7, I would suggest that gold members change themes if you are unable to use firefox or IE 7.
When testing this site on 3 different computers with both Firefox and IE. (one of the computers had IE 5.0. I experienced no problems with the exception of the Problem Dark Wanderer pointed out with the fan fiction section that has been repaired. ) I would also suggest that people increase their temp files cache and clear cookies and temp file regularly.

LocalHero, we are doing a lot of work behind the scenes and are reseting the default theme quite a bit while we are testing site bugs, this is probably why it wants you to keep the default.

Every once in awhile the site gets a hicup and will resort to your last know theme. as with any gold member just reselect the them you want with the check mark box of Alway use this theme. you may have to repeat a couple times for it to save in the dataase for some reason.

Wasmith, the problem was not with the theme but with one of the modules we thought was repaired. The HM calendar has been taken offline again and you should be able to access your account once again and change your avatar.

calendar module has been upgraded to a newer version and the problem it was having with the php code of the user display has been resolved.

Just want to tell you that the whole site it's very very slow for me... is it going to be like that from now on?

A small glitch in the code that was not allowing the change of theme's to become permanent for some users has been found and corrected.
Let me know if you still are having problems though.
