I was willing to give this movie a chance even though I totally loved ALL the Tobey Mcguire Spiderman movies, but after looking at this pic I have come to realize
I absolutely HATE this costume! Because...
1) The webs don't go all the way down.
2) The gloves are all wrong.
3) The legs on the spider emblem are way too long.
4) He looks like he's wearing a basketball.
5) The red waistband is gone making him look like he's wearing pajamas.
6) The red on the front of his costume looks like he's wearing a long ass bib.
7) For the first time I'm glad they didn't show his mask (Lord knows how messed up it's going to look).
I was going to go to the theater to watch this but I think I'll wait to see it on regular non-cable T.V.

I have 99% given up hope for this movie. I will wait to see the mask and the villain before I lose that last 1%

9-1 says it is going to be green goblin as he kills Gwen Stacy played by Emma Stone...

My impression from this photo is it appears as though this movie is designed to appeal to a younger crowd that is interested in anime/manga.
The guy is young, skinny and looks moody (typical of anime heroes) and the design feels familiar to other anime versions of American superheroes.
Not saying it's good or bad, but seems quite out of step with other recent Marvel movies that are avoiding the teen characters and concentrating on adult heroes.

The one thing I am sick of is the rubber-wetsuit superhero costumes.

Someone on another site pointed this out -

Are those claw marks on his face and chest? like maybe he got into a fight with a seven foot lizard man?

They just HAD to go and change the costume. Hasn't anybody in Hollywood ever heard the expression "DON'T FIX WAS AIN'T BROKE"?

I'm with you, starkiller. I remember how exciting it was when they released the first pic of Tobey as Spider-Man - they had hardly changed the costume at all, and they had him crouching on a rooftop, actually looking like Spider-Man! I think this picture just looks silly.

Agreed with the comments below here. Do not like the costume here at all. Well looks like this one will be a DVD watched movie, if they go this route.

I'm afriad this new Spidey's gonna make Dopey MacGuire's version look like a masterpiece! In other words, I'm not optimistic.

Ehy can't they make a Wolverine movie... or a superman movie... or an Electra movie... or a Hulk movie? I don't get it... why are they re-making Spiderman again? Has it not been over done?
I say YES... I am with you Dar... I need to see the whole outfit before I give up the 1% that this film will suck.

Now I will see it on Netflix just because of Emma... She is nice.

Im not really that surprised about the costume change. Not a huge fan of some of the design choices, but they had to do something to differentiate it from the Raimi version. The biggest positive I see is that Garfield actually matches more of the Peter Parker physique then Toby did.

I will reserve judgement until I see moving footage/clips from the film. It makes my eyes roll to no end when comic fan's get ridiculously judgmental over an ENTIRE FILM based off of one photo.

Come on guys, you know you'll be at the theater for this one too. These are the same people that said they wouldn't go see Spiderman 3 (which turns out to be the highest grossing spidey flick). lol

I knew Catwoman, with Halle Berry, was going to suck when I saw one photo. So yeah, I can say that us "comic fans" can be a good judge of character. Let me think of the movies I knew would suck just by judging one photo. Daredevil... Electra... Hulk... the new Superman (OK, didn't suck... but wasn't worth the money it took to make it)... Supergirl... Batman and Robin (OK, all of those crappy ass Batman movies). It is easy to tell if a movie is going to suck a$$ when they cast Arnold as the Ice Man. Hell, the rubber suited "Thing" in Fantastic Four almost killed that movie.

But with that said, I will still give it a chance... if it ever happens.

I think this one is hopeless, yet I know I'll still go see it... mainly because I'm raising the next generation of Spider-man fans.

Don't like the costume one bit. Don't know the actor, but he doesn't look right for the part. I agree it all looks manga-ish.

Yeah. . .I remember the fan reaction to Begins when the first photo of Bat's dropped too. Everyone thought it was going to be soooo horrible. I think it's safe to say they were wrong.

All Im saying is that the costume is only one part of a character's "character." Any time a film version is being made, It's open to changes. It's just a reality that will never change.

You know I am definately one of those judgemental fans, though I'd rather call myself a comic book purist, I could count on both hands many movies that I knew were gonna suck just by one photo (George Clooney as Batman), a trailer (Richard Pryor in Superman III)or the choice of actor (Halle Bery as Catwoman, Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin), plus given the treatment Hollywood has given superheroes in the past it's no surprise that most comic fans dread changes to a superhero when they appear in a movie (Galactus in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer). In fact some of the very best comic book movies were the ones that stayed true to the comic ( Blade,Conan, Watchmen,Sin City, Kick Ass). It's not that we won't give a comic book movie a chance, it's just we are so used to being disappointed when Hollywood makes these terrible changes to the characters we grew up with ( Jean Grey being older than Cyclops in the X-Men movies,Superman's sickly son in Superman returns, The penguin being a sewer urchin instead of a real mob boss in Batman Returns, Bruce Banners father being a cross between Zzaxx and the Absorbing man in Ang Lee's Hulk). It's not that I mean to be so judgemental, It's just I don't want Hollywood to fall back on the practice of of putting profit over character. After all, it's the comic book community that determines the success or failure of these films.

Me I don't judge movies by the pics, I usually just wait for the Critics opinion once it's out. Now about the suit it sort of looks like he Spider-Man 2099, costume, let's see what happens.
