Knowing nothing about anything even remotely relating to the subject. I have the feeling this is going to suck massive balls. But lets hope for the best anyway.

After seeing the trailer thought two things:
1. I hope the movie is black and white... or colour. Doing the 'one thing has colour' bit was Sin City, and this needs to set itself apart (not all Frank Miller movies need to look like comics).

2. Are we now going to get a lot of Spirit movie poster manips?

After seeing the posters, and the trailer I have to wonder... Where The Fuck is Will Eisner's Spirit?

This already sucks.

Me, I just think that it looks like a copy of Sin City and that will screw with the movie.
Agree with chilly, but I would prefer to see it black&white if the movie plot is set in the 40's and if set in the present day, I think it should be in full color. Since I haven't heard much about the movie, I'll wait to see what come out.
Anyways, maybe it will not be worse than that 80's Tv movie with the guy who played Flash Gordon.

All the TV flash Gordons have sucked.

Sorry, I know nothing of the Spirit... so, thought I would chime in on Flash.

I think, having never read any of Eisner's stuff, nor having seen the trailer, and not having seen anything about this film at all, that it will suck.

-Except that Samuel Jackson is in it (of course that didn't help Snakes on a Plane)
-And that it was written and directed by Frank Miller.
-And that it will seem to be set in the 40's.
-And that Scarlett Johansson is in it. Slurp.
-And that the film was shot in the same green-screen technique as 300 and Sin City, which of course also sucked.

Maximum suckage.

Suck times ten to the 459th power.

Suck, suck, suck.

Seriously, I think the main problem is, when they come up with an innovative new look, such as Sin City, the very next time they use something similar, it begs comments such as "gee it's probably going to look just like Sin City".

I think they should emulate the look and feel of Gone with the Wind, with a grainy cinemascope look, and scratchy soundtrack.

Oh, and after all, they've already done movies with sound, like the Jazz Singer, so why keep using sound? I want my Feelaround!

First, I have to go on record first as saying that I am a big Spirit fan. I saw the theatrical trailer for this movie tonight and was not greatly impressed. It looks like it might be okay, but whatever it is, it's not Will Eisner's Spirit in either style or tone.

I saw The Spirit today, and it was awful.
No plot (seriously, no plot at all).
Random storyline where things happen for the sake of it.
Terrible dialogue.
Bad acting from everyone, including Samuel Jackson.
The things that are meant to be jokes aren't funny.
No mystery or suspense... characters literally stand there and spell everything out for you.
Whatever decade it is meant to be is all messed up.
Visually it is a complete mess.

The only thing I enjoyed in this movie was Eva Mendes in a wetsuit, naked and dressed in boots and half a curtain.

I think the movie is terribly flat; some style, no substance.

Unless I am missing some kind of a diehard Spirit fan inside joke, a black man emulating a Nazi makes absolutely no sense to me what-so-ever.

Ugh... reading what everybody's saying... it appears my worst fears have been confirmed. Initially, I was quite pissed that this release didn't come to my podunk little town but I'm sure I would have been totally outraged if I'd gone the extra mile to see it. The minute I saw the trailers, it was evident Miller was gonna piss all over this which is a shame because I actually like Miller's comics and thought Sin City was a good movie... but a former friend of the late Mr. Eisner or not, it's pretty evident he wasn't right for the job. I see a lot of folks posting never read Eisner's Spirit; I would strongly urge that you do! In Eisner's Spirit, story and character are extremely important to the work and the graphic narrative is no less compelling. I understand comics have come a very long way since the 40's and honestly pretty much every reworking of those old characters has been an improvement however I just read the first DC collection of Darwyn Cooke's new Spirit stories and while they weren't at all bad, they still pale in comparison to Eisner's original work. In fact many of the best moments in those books were the parts directly derived from Eisner. In many ways, Eisner wrote the book on graphic narrative through comics and was light years ahead of his peers at that time. I could go on for volumes about his brilliance as a cartoonist but rather than boring you all to death, I'll just close by saying forget the movie, read Eisner's comics!!

everything I have seen and heard about this movie makes me think that it will end up being a rental for me at least. and that's if everything else in the video store I have already seen.
