Funny, you should ask. I picked one up myself not so long ago and it definitely feels a little weird and unnatural compared to pencil and paper. Still the more I used it, the more comfortable I felt. Actually my latest comic was really just that underneath it all... an attempt to get a handle on drawing with a digital tablet. I must admit do feel more comfortable and confident with it after taking that approach and I think it quickened the process. For a guy like you with drawing and comic skills, I would recommend the same.  Do a comic with it! Nothing too complex, just a short easy one yet enough to challenge you.
