Sayy Whaaa? You've never seen the Star Blazers???
You could Google and Wiki it but here is a quick synopsis. Evil stellar empire from another galaxy thwarts Earths New Space Force and irradiates the Earth. Moving population to underground cities all on Earth will die within a year. Another alien race sends partial help. They can stop the radiation with a device if Earth can send a ship to get device. Six months to get there and get back. That's the gist of the story. It's very cool.
