I would leave more comments but sometimes it wouldn't be positive.
For e.g. I can't stand the manips that are a naked chick with a semi-opaque costume layer on top. I can appreciate the effort that goes into it but don't really enjoy the pics.
So instead of leaving a comment on a pic I will say it here and hopefully not offend anyone.

On another note I got a critique that my pics were too dark - and I totally agree.
In Paint Shop Pro I have adjusted the monitor gamma, but browsers don't account for this - making the image darker.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Also the three judges are going to add to the personal nominations. so if you do not nominate yourself for a award does not mean you will not get one.
I am sorry for the few new artists and members that have been cut off by the january first thing. but there needed to be a cut off and the end of the year seemed to be a good one. no matter when the cut off was made someone would not be included. but do not fret, there is always next year. and your votes will count for this years awards.

I agree with that - seems a bit pretentious. I can't nominate myself anyway because I didn't get activated untl mid January.

Questions:
* Does the pic have to be on this site? If it's on a free site surely it can be nominated?
* Most improved...since when?

I like to make comments, alot. I find that comments are more helpful feedback.
I think using the most popular link rather then the top rated is a better way to gauge what you are looking for.

Yes you did. And I thank you for it. And of course, comments are a better feedback than a vote. Though I wasn't talking about my own pics (they only have about 150 hits so far).
It did bother me a bit, howerver, when I joined this site and tried to find the best stuff through the "top list". When only 1 out of 300 voted for a pic, it's not a very reliable score.

How to make a star field.

1.Start with a completely black background layer.
2.Create a new layer (layer>new>layer) Layer 1
3.Then choose red as you foreground color and black as your background color.
4. Then use the cloud filter (filter>render>clouds)
5. then use the difference clouds filter(filter>render>difference clouds) use this repeatedly until you get a formation that you like.
6.Create a new layer (layer>new>layer) layer 2
7. change you foreground color to blue
8. Then use the cloud filter (filter>render>clouds)
9. then use the difference clouds filter(filter>render>difference clouds) use this repeatedly until you get a formation that you like.
10. Change the opacity of layer 1 & 2 to around 30 or so. the more opacity you have the more it looks like a nebula rather then a star field.
11. create a new layer (layer>new>layer) layer 3 and fill it with black.
12. use the noise filter (filter>noise>add noise) set the amount at 18%, distribution glausian, with monocromatic checked.
13. make a duplicate layer of layer 3 call it layer 4
14. use the glausian blur filter (filter>blur>glausian blur) with a setting of about 7 on layer 4
15. set the opacity of layer 4 to 50% at set the layer to overlay.
16. merge layers 3 and 4 creating and new layer 3
17.change the layer settings for layer 3 setting to screen.
18. enhance the brightness/contrast of layer 3 so the white speckles look like stars. (image>adjustments>brightness/contrast)
19 then use the lens flair filter repeatedly to make big stars. (filter>render>lens flair) and place then randomly and of different sizes all over the picture.

After that, the judges can add one aditional nomination to each category, from all the pictures uploaded on the site from last year. Then the full nomination list will be posted on February 14. To be honest I don????????t vote because just like a real election I don????????t think it really matters. But you should feel safe in the notion that if your picks get 500 hit it pretty popular (for being really sh*tty or really nice). I for one make a point to comment though, especially if the art interest me (good or bad). If I am correct I believe I did leave a comment on one of your pictures.

What's whith the lack of voting on this site? A pic can have 500 hits and not a single vote. Do you have to be a member to vote? Are you all americans or just lazy like me? (joke!)
Anyway... we should all shape up and give the wonderful artist on this site some feedback.
