I saw a commercial from DC tonight for the "New 52". Whats new about them? A 2011 #1 Superman is not new.

Well I read JLA and Swamp Thing (a guilty pleasure of mine) and I thought they were very well done. The dynamic between Bats and GL was familiar but refreshingly new at the same time. Just picked up Detective & Batwoman today, we shall see.

Very pessimistic appraisal Jr. Look I have been through Earth Prime to Earth-googleplx-X9, to Crisis of Infinite Earths-Infinite Crisis- Final Crisis. Ive seen about 3-4 different variations of Supes origins. Three or four different W Women. FOUR FREAKING GREEN LANTERNS! ARRRGH! Spider Clones, Two Thors and who knows how may parallel universes, alternate timelines etc. PLUS the continuing retconning of numerous heroes, so this does not bother me all that much. Hell I survived looking at Leifields art all those years/ I will survue this too.

I will paraphrase the master Julie Schwartz. Every few years you have got to destroy the universe and start over. Remember they are not writing this for us old geeks, they must recycle the audience with new blood.

Hence the reason I thought Marvel's Ultimate line was such a good idea. It let us old timers have our existing history while giving new readers a brand new version of the titles that didn't have 30+ years of history bogging them down.
