In response to DC's "Crisis", Marvel is having a "Civil War"...

The background (for the uninitiated): The New Warriors, a B-level team of superheroes attempt to apprehend a group of villians for a reality TV show. One of these villians is Nitro, "the human bomb". This explosion kills the Warriors and over 600 civilians, mostly children. In an effort to make heroes accountable, the gov't passes the SuperHero Registration Act...now heroes will be regulated gov't employees, or wanted felons. Some heroes go public, like Iron Man, while others (like Captain America) go underground to fight for their civil liberties. The lines have been drawn....who's side are you on?????

The latest issue is out. The "surprise" ending...Spider-man reveals his identity to the world at a press conference It's not really a surprise, they've been hinting this since the start of the series. This will definitely go badly for him. Writers LOVE to make Peter's life a living hell. At the end of this story he'll probably be begging Xavier to mind-wipe the world so they'll forget.

If we can't regulate handguns, or keep track of child molesters and rapists...how the hell is the MU gonna regulate superheroes? this will end badly....

It all sounds stupid. I am glad I don't collect anymore. If Spiderman reveals himself then what is the need for a costume? He can fight crime in his skivvies. Dumb... dumb...dumb.

It will end up being like "Who Shot JR" and it will all end as a dream sequence.

What I heard of it sounded pretty cool. Considering how it would affect the Xmen and all. That and Captain America vs Iron Man sounded like there was gonna be alot of butt stomping goin on. Besides, I love anything that smears the squeaky clean Avengers image

And who shot you, Jr?

Even better...this will make Spider-man an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. He'll be a government employee and he'll be ordered to take on government assignments. He'll probably be sent out to arrest friends who won't register. I want to know how they plan to keep Mary Jane and Aunt May safe. Spidey has lots of enemies and they will be prime targets. This will go badly for him.

I guess the whole mutant registration thing was getting old so they thought they would register everyone.

I wonder if canada will all of a sudden get a bunch of registration dodging superheroes crossing the border or claiming asylum.

Basically it's Iron-Man, Spider-man, Reed Richards on the registration side and Captain America, Falcon, Wolverine, and I'm not sure, but I think Sue Storm. I don't think she's completely decided yet. Cap's side hasn't really been shown much yet. Johnny got beaten into a coma by an angry mob.

And now Spidey. He's following Tony Stark like a puppy and doing anything he says. Tony says "Tell the world who you are." Spidey says, "I'll ask my wife...ok I'll do it. I don't want to break the law."

First of all... one thing that seems a bit strange about all of this is that being a superhero has always been illegal. Vigilantism is illegal, right? But in the Marvel Universe, the law has usually looked the other way. Mostly. Although some characters have gotten into legal trouble at times. So the whole "work for the goverment or stop using your powers"-thing isn't really all that new.
This law seems to be targeting mutants more than anything, since some mutations, by their nature, are impossible not to use. And the bad guys won't care if they break this law or not, so it only affects heroes.
That, and my not so optimistic view on goverments and their agencies, means I am totally against it.

Then again...if I was a powerful superbeing...I just might be a villain. If you can believe such a thing

you know this all kind of reminds me of Legends a big crossover event from DC in the 1980's same kind of thing.

In Xmen it is all about racism. The whole registration act is straight up racism against mutants. They either fear mutants or are jealous of them.

That's why I was all into the Xtinction Agenda story line from xmen. Cameron Hodge was a majorly insane ass and he deserved everything they did to him And honestly, I think the mutants will prolly shack up at Asteriod M or even chill with the Inhumans before they bother to go to Canada. I mean yeah, chill on the moon with a hot chick who's got REALLY long hair. Or chill in Canada with a hockey player.

DW, the whole registration act has been going on for awhile now. I mean the Xtinction Agenda was around back in the early 90's.

Not even a yard sale... you still have to pay for it there...

Wouldn't most supers fall under good samaritan laws or citizen arrests? Spider-man, for instance, always turned his foes over to the police with a little note after he got done stomping them. The Avengers always (until recently) had some kind of authority to deal with threats beyond the capabilites of normal law enforcement. And the Fantastic Four were never really superheroes per se, more like specialists that could be called into certain situations, like those involving Dr. Doom. I think the X-men are really only considered outlaws because the government doesn't want those stinkin' muties forming in large groups ( with advanced technology, yet!)
As for the events in the comic, it's completly stupid to me. I don't read any of the books except new avengers. Why did Ironman suddenly become the government's little goose-stepper?

I think Tony's always been a control freak, and this gives him the chance to control pretty much everything.

Not that many people are responding to this, but I think things are about to heat up in the Marvel U. There has now been a death in the superhero community, and people are starting to question if they are really on the right side after all. And I think, in the end....it will all come down to Spider-man...

I haven't responded for a couple of reasons. One, I have yet to find the comic that grabs me and makes me want to collect again. Two, I have a friend at work who is severely into this whole story line and tells me about it almost every day.

Some highlights that I found interesting tho.........

Wolverine gets burnt down to straight metal, and a few seconds later shanks some dood after being fully healed.

Wolverine compares Sentinels guarding the 198 mutants (damn that Scarlet B!tch!) to burning crosses down south. And Luke Cage needs a beer after hearing the comparison.

Bishop can't hang after absorbing Cyclops' power. And yeah I heard Cyclops never has used his full power until that jack knob took control of him voodoo doll styley.

Domino and Shatterstar escape a sealed complex filled with weapons of mass destruction and half the 198. Place goes boom, half those mutant bastiches might be goin bye bye! (seriously, somebody slap that Scarlet B!tch for the wish she made in House of M)
