alright, as all of you who've seen my photomanips know, i'm horrible at it. no, no... it's the truth. it's bad. so... i'm looking for someone's who's friggin' awesome in photomanips who lives in the Chicago / Chicagoland area to help me out. i tried websites... and well... they just don't work. i'm one of those learners who needs to be sitting next to someone to catch on [sorry, i'm not as bright as i'd like people to believe]. any takers? i have no problem paying for food & drinks [no alcohol, though, because i don't believe in it]. or, if you're looking for payment, i'm sure i can scrounge up $20. but i really need the help. thanks, guys [and gals].

No sh*t??? I used to live over there off of Belmont. I'm up in K-town now. I can help you out, but I think the over the shoulder thing is a waste of time. People learn more effectively by doing. If you wanna try to do a little online training thing we can meet up in the chat room. PM me with your schedule and I'll let you know if I can accomodate it.

DAG, you also may want to try looking for tutorials done in quicktime. That way you can watch a video and see exactly what they are doing. Also, pause and then do exactly as they do. I myself went hunting for those because I found that when some of the written ones made mistakes, they never mentioned it. At least this way you can see when they screw up and how they fix it. A couple places that I've found to have video tutorials are: 3DBuzz.com and http://www.lombergar.com/v6/free-photoshop-video-tutorials.html

This is really excelent advice as well as some top notch links. The more sources you use to learn the better.

LOL hawk.
as for helping out, the tutorials are a good start but do not rely too much on them. You will grasp a general Idea on how to do something but you will always find something you would have done different or what would look better for you. Like my metal work I can sum up a general Idea in about 5 steps but have not because I am always tweaking here and there to make it better each time.

You know I was thinkin, we have a chat room, it would be easy enough to set a time for the more experienced members to announce that they are in the chat room and have those who are interested meet with them there for live instruction and tutorial.

Wow... I feel a lot of love. DAG... I hate to say it... BUT... here it goes. I have tutored many...many people in Photoshop and without practice you will never get any better. I tutored one guy that was paying me $100 a session. We would work and work and he would make progress. Then when I came back for another session we would spend the first 30 minutes reviewing what we covered previously. He still sucks. So... Practice...practice...practice. I have never taken a class in photoshop nor been instructed (for manips). Now i took many a class on Photoshop and how Photoshop works to become a Certified Adobe Expert... but those are different classes... if that makes sense. Anywho, with practice You will develope your own style. I am always willing to try and help but it always seems that it goes in one ear and out the other. Soo... There are a handful of memebers here that are willing to give out a tip or two... but I honestly think that a sit down, over the shoulder (as bio puts it) isn't going to really help you out. I do like Hawks idea of a Q&A... but like he said... we need experienced members. OH... I just remembered. another excellent publication is NAPP's Photshop User. Lots of helpful tips in there and if you are a memeber of NAPP their help desk is free and Pete Bauer is real quick to answer your questions.... there is one more ref link for you.
