hey Morphites,

how are we doing. today I saw THE LAST AIRBENDER and
I must say it was quite entertaining. the idea that
Shamalayn can take a silly kid's cartoon and make a
fairly kickass movie with really cool special effects
is impressive. of course, the ending screams "SEQUEL"
but I actually look forward to see where the story
goes from here. comments?

If you have ever watched the cartoon then you know there will be 2 more movies, Each being one season in the series. Next will be Book Two: Earth, Followed by Book Three: Fire.
There were a few minor oddities about the movie. 1st the lack of 90% of the humor found in the series. This can be seen as being needed to be done for a few reasons. It is a time of war and as such there is not much room for humor. Second by doing so they were able to fit the entire first season of the show into a 2 hour movie.

All through the movie you see hints of the sequels with the mention of names or locations for example.

The biggest discrepancy was the fact that the fire nation needed actual fire in a close proximity before they could control it ( much like pyro from the X-Men) again I can see the logic in this. Why should the Fire nation be the only Element that does not need the actual element present?

It was still a good movie to see. To me the only notable 3D is the slow pan of the Fire nation ship. Other times it was blah ( I think that is mostly due to my being spoiled with the 3D Beauty of Avatar, that not much of anything compares to it)

did we forget about how M.Night cut scenes right in the middle of someone talking in the film and the poor editing of said film? Not to mention the acting wasn't all that great either.

My seven year old leaned over to me and told me that they were saying the avatar's name wrong. How do you mess THAT up? I would think that the multiple seasons worth of calling the avatar aang not ong would have gotten noticed at least once.

My wife and I were talking about that. We think it may be a regional pronunciation from Asia and when it translated in America it was Ang ( Like Bang) In the movie it was pronounced "Ong" (like Thong)
