nightmother - Graphite and graphics.

A self portrait (when I was in my early 20's)
Taken into photoshop and messed around with until i was happy with it.

How do you draw yourself from that angle? Did you use photographic reference? Is this a fair representation of your current skill level? So many questions...

Thanks for the comments Bio.
Yes it was done with photographic reference, and yes it is a fair representation of my skills at the human anatomy.

I like to practice my eye at art with studies of H.r.Giger and Paul Booth.
I also have become adept at Simpson-ising people, I love to tackle Manga/anime, and pretty much will turn my hand to just about anything if it facinates me or I find it fun to learn.
I am happy to try and answer any questions you may have. So feel free to ask.

How much messing around was done in Photoshop?

I like the pose. It kind of reminds me of a Leonardo DaVinci style sketch.

I just neatened it up, put a colour gradient ovet it, and lightly blurred some of the harsher lines.

Love it. Most people who do self-portraits they only do the face, but I really like the thinking pose. We look at it and we wonder what is she thinking about...
It's a really wonderful piece of art you made here. Really love it.

I was just trying to get a point of reference to be able to give you fair comments.

Your info actually helped a lot. My initial impression was that this was a bit of a caricature, so your influences of Giger and Groening makes sense. Any advice i might give would be dependent on what direction you want to go.

Very nice Piece NM, you did a pretty good job on this piece. Although the orgional in my opinion is much nicer on the eyes! I look forward to seein more of your work here in the future NM

I have yet to decide what direction I want to go in as far as my anatomy studies go. I will definately give it some thought and get back to you on that.
As far as anything else goes artwise, I am aspur of the moment kinda gal ... so if something inspires me I want to learn about it.
Being a member here has wet my appetite to learn the art of comic book line drawing, so any advice etc that I could get on that front would be awsome.

The original is real strong NM... I see there was a lot of distortion on your PS version. You definitely have some drafting skills. It looks like you've done some life drawing.

Ahhhhhhhh .... I get it now! (MC..You naughty little monkey!)

Believe it or not, all of the artwork I do is self taught, I failed art at school, and so couldn't get a place at art college like I wanted to. Hence no still life classes

Thanks for the compliments MC. (flattery will get you everywhere! LOL)
Unfortunately my hard drive crashed the other day, so I have to start all over again with my graphite work (and pretty much everything else! )
