I am currently working on a manip, and am using several layers. Could someone please tell me how to overlay a texture on one of the layers, for example...a leather texture for the cape layer. I'd much appreciate it, thanks.

Check out the tutorial downloads section of the site, I think the displacement tutorial will help you.

if you are using photoshop cs or higher, the easiest way would be to create a new layer with the texture above the layer you want to apply the texture to. fill the layer with your texture. use the alt key and click the mouse in between the 2 layers to link them together. this will make the texture layer only visible where the layer underneath is visible.
the next step is to go into the liquify filter and use this tool to create a distortion to the texture so it properly wraps itself around the layer below creating the correct displacement, this will take practice and work but is worth the effort.
then once you have created the correct displacement on the texture layer set it to either multiply or overlay.
then play with the original layers brightness and and contrast to make it look right.
if done correctly this should create a very realistic texture look in about 15 min.

Or if you are simply looking for sub par textures, you can simply use a blending mode like Multiply or Overlay and adjust the opacity. That is the lazy mans way of doing things... and tends to create art that makes you go "ewww". But that is another lazy way to do it.

Thanks guys. But I must be some sort of Photoshop moron. I went through those tuts, must have been 20 times yesterday, and nothing seems to come out right. I find the displacement tut a little vague in spots, and never heard of the liquify tool till now...lol. Anyhoo, I'll keep plodding along, and post my image, and let the critics have at it. Or if someone wants to see my .psd file before posting, let me know. I'll be glad to let ya have a view.

I'll take a look at your PSD. It is always fun to see how others manip. Send it to jhcjr13@gmail.com.

I will be gone all weekend, so I won't be able to look at it until monday.
