OK, I am really looking forward to this show. I really like that they are going back to the original characters of Kirk, Bones, Spock, etc.. I always liked these guys more then the Next gen characters.
I have seen a bunch of interviews and behind the scenes stuff about this show on tv so far and I am way more pumped about it then I originally was.
One of the reason is that they have been saying that this movie takes place in an alternate version of history then the original star trek movies. so that they had the freedom to do what they wanted. This way we don't really know what is going to happen and it will bring in new fans to the series. Sort of like the way they rebooted Batman. and it gets the movie out of the extremely rich and full history. If they had to worry about all the other movies, TV shows, and books that came before it, They would be extremely limited in their story.
I am pumped. anyway what do you all think? I can't wait to see this baby.

I've been a big star trek Fan all my life. Pretty much know everything about everything in the Trek Univserse. I have to admit it was getting pretty stale there towards the end. I think this restart with a brand new batch of creative talent was exactly what the series needed. I'm going to the first showing Friday!
I saw an interview with J.J. last night and he said he wasn't a fan of Star Trek until he made the movie. SO, an non-trekkie making a movie might be an added bonus too. I will go see this for sure! I am curious how Syler will play into the movie... has he moved on to absorbing alien races now? Very interesting indeed!

I will be one of them, I'm not a star trek fan, the only show that I liked was Star Trek: Enterprise, it looked more credible to me.
And I can't believe the critics those freaks, geeks or whatever are making for the new movie , for what I can see this is the first star trek movie that I want to pay to watch.
I'm looking forward to the film. I'm glad they're resetting from the old series. It should make it interesting and we'll be able to see new versions of old foes, as they make more films. With all the other Star Trek shows/movies out there, restarting from the beginning is about all they could do.

wake up and smell the 21st century.
DK, that video is a joke. The Onion News Network is a parody of CNN and Fox News. None of the news they report is serious though they do a good job of sounding it.

Saw the movie today. I have to say that it was just as the video described it even though the video is a joke. Great origin story with lots of action, character development, and good special effects.
They changed some things around a little bit. Okay, they changed some things a lot, but they did it in a way that makes sense and doesn't take away from the original series. Also, the way they changed things doesn't really make this movie a "reimagining" of the Star Trek Universe, but makes it more of a fresh story and setting to build off of.
All the actors playing the roles did an excellent job. The portrayals of the characters were done well enough at some points that you could see the original actors playing these parts today. Especially the guy who played McCoy. The way he delivered his lines and his mannerisms looked and sounded just like Deforest Kelley.
Excellent movie. Go see it!

The original Star Trek series will always be my favourite along with the original cast films over the TNG ones.
The new movie?
Awesome. See it in Imax if you can. So very pleased Star Trek has been able to reinvent itself so we can expect many more years of one of the great TV and film franchises ever.
Saw it the other night and it works as a thrill ride really well, but I have to say the underpinning of the main plot line doesn't quite ring true. I won't give away anything, but I can't say I've ever liked that sci-fi plot device much.
That said, the casting is excellent, the ship, the gadgets, uniforms click and the dialogue is crisp. Given that I'm a fan, I'm harder on 'em. So, over all it gets a big thumbs up. Of casting note, no Yeoman Rand or Nurse Chapel. Guess that will have to wait for the sequel. We'll see.
I saw it Friday/May/8th/6:30pm after work! I have'ta say he did a fine job with it. It really sorts itself out with it being different, with the time-travel timelines, Kirks father dying on his birth and how they all came together but with alittle different circumstances than canon.
Saw it on Friday, thought it would suck but I ended up liking it for the most part. I didn't like Kirk being such a dick, Spock's affair with Uhura (WTF?!) or Kirk and Scotty becoming 'honorary' crew members but this was definately the Star Trek for non-Trekkers of the 21st century.

to be honest, i was never much of a TOS fan, as i really never cared for Shatner. really, he just rubbed me the wrong way entirely. so i was quite delighted to see an actual SANE version of his character done, without the needless idiosyncrasies that the show's version had. i also thought that while Vulcan, Prime/Old Spock was the most human of all the characters, managing to bring in a good portion of emotion and respectibility to the plot. i too, am also not much of a fan of the TimeTravel plot device in sci-fi, but i felt that here it worked quite well, managing to explain away all of the little differences between the movie and TOS quite well. i must say i am QUITE looking forward to the announced sequel, as i feel each actor has made their characters so interesting and believably human, that i want to see them again.

The fact that you don't like Shatner and yet used the exact same line that Kirk did to describe Spock in the second movie is absolutely hilarious to me.
