It can be real hard to tell the textures of outfits from comics being they're usually only basically shaded to begin with. So when I try to do a 3D depiction of a figure I'm usually guessing what type of material the outfit is made up of.

So what does, say, Batgirl wear? Spandex? PVC? Leather? Any clues about Supergirl, Wonderwoman, Power Girl, etc., would help, too.

Thanks!

Prolly unobtainium. I would think it would be leather for Batgirl but who really knows? Supergirl's was at one point from off planet, WW's is or was magic, no telling what Mister Terrific or John Henry Irons have whipped up for the JSA/JLA teams. I never thought of it and now will be looking and stumped for awhile. Thank you good sir.

My personal favourite is Nylon-Spandex. It has a shiny texture, is very flexible and form-fitting (unlike Leather & Latex), and is cooler & more comfortable to wear, especially in exercise (you don't see exercise outfits of Latex or Leather). Cotton-Spandex is the most comfortable to wear but does not have a shiny finish. However, we're talking fantasy here so you could make-belive anything you want. In some TV and movie shows (notably BatGirl and Catwoman in the Batman TV Show) a Lame-coated spandex was used which was not very flexible (wrinkles). Julie Newmar's fit better b/c she was a seamstress and tailored her catsuit.

Their clothes are made out of whatever makes sense for the image and the character. It depends on how realistic you want to depict them. The more realistic you get, the more important the choice becomes, as well as, how well the material works with the design.

In the case of MissVee and me we almost always texture our characters, such as Batgirl.

The thing about realistic is, well, they're not in the first place. :) And it seems every artist does something different when it comes to details. I was mostly looking for information if it were truly available from some episode or issue. If it's never really been specified semi-officially, then I guess anything goes. :D

It's not like there is one answer. Go with Reed Richards fabric of choice, the unstable molecule. What's that look like?

You should also check out some of the Sue Richards' costumes that have been posted here at HM (heh, heh)

"Damn, that costume fit!"

Someone had to say it (didn't know she tailored her own suits, though).
