I dunno if I like it, the boots and cape look to much like a crimson colored leather, the emblem on the belt i like but not on the chest, the shorts are too short, and there is no definition to the torso in reguards to a chest abs etc.....

Isn't all that stuff sticking out from his costume (The belt, the carbon fiber (?!) chest emblem, the boot tops) going to be torn off "at speed", so to speak? Like, Mach 5?

the red should bright, not thisdeary colour unless of course this has something to do with his absence in the movie.
could we have a poll? maybe comparing this suit to superman suits of the past?

have to agree the "S" looks to small
and the boots dont look long enough
also the costume colors the red and blue just dont look bright enough they look kind off washed out esp the blue

is this the final design for the costume or just a test/promo costume? anyone know

as far as i know this is the finished design. and i think i might have a reason for the s being so small. i was watching the special features for spiderman 2 and there was some concern about making the spider symbol larger because of framing close ups. if the spider was large they would have to pull back more , maybe this is what they were thinking about when designing Superman. although, i may be wrong, i have nothing to do with the film industry.

Re: first look at SUPERMAN
Thanks for that pic. I've been looking for one. But I'm not sure I like it now, it may grow on me as I watch the movie. I agree with those of yall who have said that the emblem is too small. I like it big and bold - the way Alex Ross tended to draw it. The 'Red' in the costume is too dark for my tastes. It adds a 'darker' tone to a character that really shouldn't be.

The "s" on his chest is way too small and the colors don't seem quite right to me but it is OK to me, the Old Dean Cain or Cristopher Reeve suits were both much better.

Re: counting
Pretty damn neat! I dig it.

I understand the comments about the colors and size of the emblem. The only thing that I was a little surprised of was the belt emblem. And they kept the underwear! I always wondered how the hell they'd keep the underwear without it looking goofy.

I think it really needs to be seen in action to be judged.

There is a prejudice in the movie biz against superhero tights.

The original Punisher film was a flop after they decided that no one would buy a vigilante in a costume, so they got rid of it. A year later Batman was a hit.

X-men was cool despite the lack of comic book costumes, but Spider-man wouldn't have made it without the traditional suit.

The Edna Mode scenes in The Incredibles were some of the best parts of the movie.

Hollywood has to learn that the type of person who would enjoy a Superhero flick has already accepted the notion of crayola colored spandex. Instead of saying, ???????Hmm, how do we make this NOT look like a Superman costume???????, they should have hung up a bunch of Alex Ross posters and said, ???????Everybody loves this suit, how can we make ours look EXACTLY LIKE IT.???????

Besides, this is supposed to be a continuation of the Reeve series ???????? the costume is already there.

I'm with Biohaz on this one The little "s" stands for sucks, and that hurts me being a big supes fan. I agree that the colors are too dark (save that for batman!) also the kid is just too freakin skinny! You shouldn't be able to look at the guy playing Superman and think "I could take him!" ;) Just my two cents, -Leif.

Uhm... I realize it must be hard to make brightly colored tights look cool, but man... he looks like a dork. (And no, making the red a tad darker than in the comics isn't enough to make it look cool.)
The villains would take one look at him, and laugh their asses off. At least 'til he beat the snot out of them. Is that what he's going for? Make them drop their guard, by looking dorky?

The colors make me think of the anti-Superman from the 2nd movie (or was it the third), the evil Supes he fought in the junkyard. I like the colors of Dean Cains costume over Reeves.

Not much more to add than the others ... basically its not terrible but nothing great either , and with the ammount of hype this movie is getting its just not good enough. I mean this is Superman we're talking about, you got it right the first time with Reeves and if it aint broke...

Where _do_ you start when presented with a costume like that?

I totally agree, when he's travelling at Uber speeds the bobbly S & the belt will surely fall off (though same could be said for the cape if you want to get literaly... don't)

Alex Ross' costume really captures the spirit of superman, the high toned definition, low leck and _BIG_ S symbol on the chest, no the small piddly one you see before you...

Sure, they use darker colours and the current design to make sups look more realistic, but at the end of the day it's SUPERMAN. He's always going to be an alien running around in a bright blue wetsuit with his underpants over the top of it.

If superman really is returning, i would have loved them to use the longer haired version of superman, he looks more sugged. And if they want something more modern and realistic then go for the Ultimate Superman costume, (my current fave costume of all time) that's got class whilst still retaining the superman mythos.

Why Supes is going to suck

the movie plot summary:
Quote:
Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.
Sounds kind of gay, why not take a page from Batman begins and start over. But that isn't really why I think the movie is going to suck.

This is...

Cast list:
Quote:
Brandon Routh .... Clark Kent/Superman
rest of cast listed alphabetically:
Stephan Bender .... Young Clark Kent
Kate Bosworth .... Lois Lane
Marlon Brando .... Jor-El (archive footage)
Sam Huntington .... Jimmy Olsen
James Karen .... Ben Hubbard
Frank Langella .... Perry White
James Marsden .... Richard White
Mike Massa .... 777 Pilot
Noel Neill .... Previously Wealthy Woman
Kal Penn .... Stanford
Parker Posey .... Kitty Koslowski
Eva Marie Saint .... Martha Kent
Kevin Spacey .... Lex Luthor
Peta Wilson .... Flight Attendant

Look at that cast list. Sure Kevin Spacey is a pretty good actor but he is going to have to pull another Keyser Soze out of his butt to save this one. Besides Mr. Spacey. I only recognize A few other names on the cast list and I don't think much of most of them. Look at the Spiderman Movies, Look at Batman, Look at Sin City, The selection of a quality cast is one of the most important parts of making the movie right. It looks like they just signed up who ever would say "yes, i'll be in it".
