Anybody have any particularly funny run-ins with Normies? (For the uninitiated, Normies are what I like to call 'anti-geeks' who know nothing about science fiction, superheroes or any of the other things that we all hold dear.) At a comic book convention a few years ago, some guys dressed as Storm Troopers came out of the elevator by the enterance and some woman called them (I swear I'm not making this up) POWER RANGERS! I and a couple other people laughed out loud as she obviously had no freakin' clue what she was talking about. Anybody else have experiences like that?

Okay, how about things that people with no knowledge of comics say that urk you off or, at the very least, make you laugh? I remember when X-2 came out and I read a review for it in People magazine. In it the woman who wrote referneces the kid that changed the TV channels by blinking saying "I don't know what his name is but I'll call him 'Remoto'." REMOTO?! When I first read that I wanted to hunt this self styled movie expert down and slap her upside the head but now, looking back, I just laugh at it.

You mean like the time I took this hot girl on a date to the movies, and we saw Star Trek.
I ducked out to get a drink and when I came back she said ?You missed the bit where they fired the proton torpedoes.?

I looked at her and said ?They?re called PHOTON torpedoes, you STUPID bitch! PROTON torpedoes are in Star Wars!!! aHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA?

Then I just stood and pointed and laughed at her until she left.

(that never happened, I often pretend to be a normie ? or as I call it ?normal?)

Once, in the military, this girl tells me she wants to hear Aerosmith's first album. I wasn't sure which one that was myself, so I go and put on the earliest one I have..... Toys in the Attic. Her immediate response was "What the hell is this sh@#?!" I told her it was Aerosmith in the early 70's. She called me a f#$%ing liar and proceeded to educate me in the fact that Aerosmith's first album was Pump (the one with Janie's Got A Gun)

Or how about, I was at work one night talking to a friend about a particular match where I pulled off this freakin amazing sniper shot from half way across the map. And some girl pops up behind us and says. What's the fascination with that, that, uh science uh y'know make believe crap. I sat there and told her calmly "Have you ever had anything that you just had to have the shirt, books, dvds, and find enjoyable even at the 4th time around?" Her response was.......OH you mean like LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRARIE!!!!!

The term "normies" implies that these people are, well uh... normal; conversly, those with other than their mainline tastes are abnormal. In reality they're just "clueless" (which is not a bad thing, we're all clueless about something(s)). But, when one looks down upon or mocks those supposed abnormals, then that one becomes "dumbsh!t".

I do not act like a Fan Boy or get upset when people do not share my knowledge of comics & Sci-Fi, computers, Photoshop etc as I am surprise most people can figure out how to tie their shoes and walk out their doors. These things are a hobby for me, that I enjoy and I know others do not share my interest. I know very little about remote control boats but I have a buddy that loves the things and they are constantly talking about them, I am have no idea what he is talking about.

In fact I think the people that get upset because someone can't tell the difference between a Gamorrean guard and an Uruk-hai extremely hilarious that they think the majority of people would even give a flying fart. I mean come on at a party do you really think your going to be able to screw the hot blonde on your friends pool table with a Jedi mind trick. Or with your mastery of Marvel trivia You guys crack me up. Did high school or college teach you nothing?

Highschool taught me to hate everyone. College taught me to laugh at everyone I hated.

Aside from that I tend to live by 2 statements I've heard.
"To be normal is weird, to be weird is normal"
"People in general, are stupid. Eliminate the doubt, and people will believe anything you tell them."

I have used the name Logan or XLogan for over 10 yrs, in e-mail addresses, chat rooms, etc. Recently, my mom asked me what it meant. Thinking quickly, I showed her a Marvel Legends Logan figure, pointing out the name "Logan" on the front. She then asked about the "X". I said it is because he is an "X"-Man. She still looked at me like I was crazy. And don't get me started on talking with my Dad...

As to music, a couple of yrs ago, a new coworker (who claimed to be a former DJ) put in a dance mix CD. A dance version of Bohemien Rhapsody (with a female singer) came on, and he bragged about how great the singer was. My friend Dawn and I just burst out laughing because he was totally clueless that the song was originally by Queen....

Winterhawk, it's the same thing with any other fan; grown men that can quote chapter and verse of baseball stats, Nascar fans that own a complete wardrobe based on their favorite driver, music groupies that know everything about their favorite band...while I may not care about Dale Earnhart Jr, I expect the same respect when I talk about the Summer's family tree. It's all relative when you look at it.

Thats exactly what I am talking about. now imagine a sports fan going on about sports stats and then getting upset and or mocking you because you don't share there knowledge. Thats what this thread is about, mocking those that are not comicbook and/or scifi fans, and like I said in my last post their is no reason to get upset at someone because they don't share your interest, in fact IMO it makes you just as bad if not worse as those you are mocking.

Ya wanna hear about puting things in perspective? I went to the bank today wearing my favorite Spider-Man t-shirt and the attractive teller behind the counter said she liked it! Just when was about to start a conversation with her that I hoped would lead to a possible friendship (and more), she told me her son loved Spidey! That's when I knew I'd better take a lesson from Dr. Evil and "Take it dowwwn a notch." if I ever want to get a date.
