I recently purchased Poser 8 and moved over my entire runtime folder from Poser 7. Now, however, I can't access any of the items in my folder through Poser 8. what have I done wrong?

so i moved the runtime folder back to poser 7 and now I can't get 7 to even OPEN!!!!!!!!!!! please someone help me, for the love of god. if i lose all my poser stuff all over again i give up. i'll just have to accept that it was NEVER meant to be.

If you pulled all of your Runtime folder, you've got Poser 8 files in there.

The only folders you want are Geometries, Libraries and Textures.

In the Libraries folder; you'll only need Camera, Character, Face, Hair, Hand, Light, Materials, Pose and Props.

Anything else and you run the risk of getting Poser 8 stuff.

So first when ever you are adding an old runtime or an extra runtime to poser or daz......don't move it!!! BAD STAR BAD!! if you are going to merge runtimes then zip them and extract them to a new location make sure they work after adding them then delete the old ones.
Now poser 8 had a great python script you could have run that would add in all your old runtimes automatically.

now by move I assume you mean drag and drop? (but if the below doesn't work tell me exactly what you did.

All you need to do is click this button to add a library.

then find the runtime folder anywhere on your computer that you want to add.

You may want to re-install poser 8, sr1, sr2 and flash as well. It never hurts. to get a fresh install.

the file structure of a runtime HAS to be as follows for it to work

Runtime>Textures
Runtime>Libraries
Runtime>Libraries>Character
Runtime>Libraries>Camera
Runtime>libraries>Face
Runtime>Libraries>hair
Runtime>Libraries>hand
Runtime>Libraries>light
Runtime>Libraries>materials
Runtime>Libraries>pose
Runtime>Libraries>props

the above is the basic set up. and this is what is required to see the content in poser 8 as well as poser 7.

It does at that, especially after SP1. Haven't had the chance to play with it since going SP2 though. The original release had a lot of issues though, most notably in the new indirect lighting system.

Personally, I find Poser 8 still needs a bit of work even after SP2. I find myself using poser 7 still most of the time.
When I first got poser 8 it was completely unusable. now after sp2 It is much much better but still crashes on me for no reason and sometimes will freeze when loading in content from the runtime.
The render time in poser 8 is fantastic. I will build a scene in poser 7 then render in poser 8 and this will drop my render times in half a lot of the time.

I've got a very unique problem. Remember the trans map tutorial I put in the download section? Well, I can't figure out how to get the trans maps to display the costume on the figure without rendering the image. Also, I can't seem to find the original tutorial that I based mine on which explains in detail how to do that.

Can anybody offer any suggestions on that one? lol

it has been awhile and I am currently at a PC with out poser in it but I am pretty sure it is a setting in the render settings menu. last tab. you set how transparencies appear in the preview there.

either that or it's the left most display button. A long line of spheres one end is kinda like wire frame display. but the extreme other end is textured.

ok. new problem. this one has me pissed beyond belief. my library isn't displaying in the window. i go under the window tab and the little check is next to "library" but nothing is displaying. i can't work on anything because i can't load anything at all from any of my library folders. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

and i just figured out why. my library folder under runtime is completely and inexplicably EMPTY!!! how the fucking jolly ass hell does this shit happen, and why the fuck does it always seem to happen to me? i just don't think i'm MEANT to ever truly enjoy this program. i'm going to reinstall and hope it fucking works. hopefully my poser 7 runtime is still intact. if not I GIVE UP

nevermind. it wasn't empty. i was just looking in the wrong folder. still don't know what the problem is. even a fresh install didn't work. grrrrr
