I was up early this Saturday and though my kids are all grown now (youngest is 15), I thought I want to see what cartoons are like it's been so long since I watched them on a Saturday morning. I couldn't find any on the regular networks, I saw some pre-school type stuff and that was it.

I remember being a kid and that was the highlight of the weekend getting up at a quarter till seven (they started at seven am) getting our bowls of cereal and then it was about two hours of bliss. Heck before the new seasons of shows there was always a special for the upcoming season. I remember watching on a Friday night while the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt showed the previews.

I guess with all the cartoon channels now no one figures it's worth it to put any on the "regular" networks. To bad that was such a big deal when I was young /shrug.

It started around 1997.They started saying too much TV was bad for Kids so they started cutting down on the amount of cartoons shown to start around 10:00 A.M. instead of the 5:30 - 1:30 P.M. A.M. we were used to, They now get 10-maybe 12:30 if they are lucky.

i don't think thats it DW. i just think network tv just isnt getting the sponsors to host saturday morning kid shows anymore. think about it. does it really benefit a child to get up at 7am on a sat morning to watch a show they can see damn near at any time they want on cable? back in the days sponsors would have those big cartoon specials because they were fighting for the kid audience...basically so they could appeal to sponsors who targeted those kids..afterall back in the days you could only watch quality kids programming on sat. mornings. cable has changed the entire culture of kids and cartoons. just look at what they offer for kids to watch on sat mornings on network tv nowadays. nickalodeon and the kids wb are the major groups and they own at least 85% of the shows seen on sat.

I think it's sad, it was kind of a social thing too. We would be outside about 10:30 with the other kids on the block saying stuff like "did you see what Captain Caveman did?" or "Thundarr the Barbarian was awesome" LOL. Different times I guess we also would play till dark and our parents would have to come looking for us. Nowadays I'd be calling the cops if I didn't see my kids till after dark. We also never went inside to get a drink...not with a perfectly good water hose outside LOL, my kids would NEVER do that.
