hey all,

hope we are enjoying the Olympics. well done so far,
our friends across the Pond. watching the Parade of
Nations, they were talking about Turkey possibly
hosting the 2020 Games. it would be interesting given
that a good part of that area does not like the West,
especially the US. we'd have:

1. a hostile enviroment. e.g. we'd have Beach Volleyball
with US vs Australia and there would be cries of "Death
to the American infidels" or something along those lines.

2. a somewhat medieval attitude toward women. female
swimmers, track athletes, gymnasts, etc would wear full
bodysuits.

3. a suicide bombing or possible repeat of 1972 Munich
(at least it would not suprise me.)

I saw online several reasons why Turkey should not
get the Games:

1. their occupation of Cyprus.
2. questionable human rights record.
3. persecution of minorities.
4. Armenian genocide and refusal to apologize.

so, should Turkey get the Games, there probably would
be a large number of boycotts. still it would be kind
of intriguing to see how they would do.

As I predicted... Phelps is sucking. I knew he didn't have it in him.

2020? Really? In 8 years Turkey might not even be on the map anymore. I have to much to worry about this afternoon. I can't worry about 8 years down the road. Hell, I might not live that long.

But you do bring up some interesting points.

I'm all for getting the Olympics into places that have never hosted them, but this is a bad idea and hopefully someplace else will get the games.
