Hello, this is my first post.  I thought I'd start with one of the characters I had in mind for a web comic.  Her call-sign is Aegis.  I hope you enjoy.

I recolored her uniform a little.  Though I liked the black with red highlights I definitely prefer the two-tone red and black.  I also added fingerless gloves to her which is something I've been meaning to do for some time now.  I know it's still simple but that's also in character for her.  The only thing I would probably like to add from here is a logo of some kind to her chest, either on the upper left or in the center.  I also finally did away with that funky shadow she was casting.  (I had to remove all shadows cast from her to get rid of it.  Shifting lighting didn't seem to solve it and I tried several different lighting arrangements.)

The shadowy reflected figure at the terminus of the blast reflection has always been there.  Even though it's faint, I think he adds balance to the image ... if you see him(if not then the image no doubt appears imbalanced).

At any rate, thanks again for the suggestions and support.

Yeah, I freely admit she's huge ... in just about every way. I'm currently doing some concept work on another of her teamates, Blaze. I also need to work out how to build some of Aegis' other combat effects such as how I want her force assisted punches and kicks to look. I may work through some magnet based environment effects in the next few weeks. (This will be things like wrecking cars and denting buildings.) That will be an opportunity for me to bring environments into the picture.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Her muscles are almost as big as mine!
Would be good to see her in an action shot next, in a realistic environment.
Welcome!

Well built, powerful and somewhat gelatinous

I know squat about 3D, so I'm not qualified to critique, but I will say that this character seems fraught with potential. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Ever have one of those moments where you are tired of working on something, think you are done with it, then post it, only to realize a few hours later that you weren't done?

*sigh* I did it.

The shadow and the blade in her hand have been bothering me ever since I posted. The shadow is definitely due to the lighting. There are four light sources in the image and there is one in particular bouncing off the curved surface in the background that is causing the odd effect.

The blade well, it's blah. I have since replaced it with a paraboloid similar to the one off her right hand containing the blast effect, and it looks much more like it belongs.

I must admit that there is no post-production work in this image. I suck at such manipulations. It's a weakness, I know.

Sprucing up the costume would definitely require external texture work. But she's also the type of individual who would balk at too many modifications to a basic constume. I would definitely like to work in some fingerless gloves in black and red, perhaps with more of a leather texture.

The good news is this was done on an old comp and it took about 5 hours for the computer to render out. This was mostly due to the blast effects and the reflection maps. (I definitely like the way these effects turned out.) So, this is good news because in a few weeks I'll be getting a brand new Alienware computer. Oh happy days and a 19" flatscreen monitor. When it arrives hopefully I can make the necessary changes and perhaps get a mod to replace the image if it isn't too much trouble.

Thanks for the welcome!

Not bad. Nice effects and image composition [nice use of reflections eventhough the shadow is out of place here]..as far as character designs go this one's pretty basic and [well to be honest..kind of boring]. I've noticed that most guys who develop characters for use in 3D webcomics tend to keep the character designs relatively simple so i don't fault you for following those same lines. But a good thing to remember when creating characters is are they going to be remebered by whomever veiws them. I'd add a splash of color here and there or perhaps a distinctive texture for her suit to make it stand out a little more.
