So for Spidey 3 I decided to make my own suit and cosplay around the theatre on opening night. I had a lot of fun as the Red Power Ranger for Halloween a few years ago, and the Symbiote suit was a lot of the same process.
At first I wanted to be Venom, but seeing as how I have a small build, I instead opted for spidey.
The suit is once agin fully constructed out of stuff I've had lying around or found at thrift stores and the like. Most if not all of it is hotglued together, as I can't sew to save my life. So from the top down, here's my process:
The mask is some lycra from when I did band in high school (night competitions in the fall get pretty cold). The lenses are peices of a white mesh hat sandwiched between two layers of 2 litre soda bottle plastic. I can see pretty well out of them, and they photograph as pretty white, so it worked out great. The webs are dimensional fabric/puff paint. Velcro on the inside edges keep it attached slightly to my shirt.
The shirt was some under-armor type stuff I found at a thrift store sports section. I was lucky enough to find one that fit my body pretty well. The webs are again fabric paint. The front spider is fabric paint as well, the back spider (not visible) is silver sharpie, since I ran out of paint =D
The gloves are formal attire gloves I found at the thrift store again. Webs are fabric paint.
The pants are exercise/biking pants, so they were formfitting too. The web belt was painted onto the pants, and the pants overlap the shirt so that the belt matches up with the webs on the shirt. From far enough it looks like one piece.
The boots are long black socks, with fabric paint webs. I plan on hot gluing sandal bottoms to the bottom of the socks to make them actual skintight boots. We'll see.
And that's that. I plan on improving it and then wearing it to Super Con in San Jose later in the summer.
