Ah the classics! Your stule seems to be developing into a painting style. To blend the hero and the background together better I would apply a "artistic" (in photoshop or whatever the equivalent is in the program you are using)filter. Conversely you could reduce the opacity of the flames so that the give a more realistic look.

Overall you are developing a distinctive style.
