Based on an old song by the band Rush:
"Tobes of Hades, lit by flickering torchlight
The netherworld is gathered in the glare
Prince By-Tor takes the cavern to the north light
The sign of Eth is rising in the air
By-Tor, knight of darkness
Centurion of evil, devil's prince
Across the River Styx, out of the lamplight
His nemesis is waiting at the gate
The Snow Dog, ermine glowing in the damp night
Coal-black eyes shimmering with hate
By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Square for battle, let the fray begin
The battle's over and the dust is clearing
Disciples of the Snow Dog sound the knell
Rejoicing echoes as the dawn is nearing
By-Tor, in defeat, retreats to Hell
Snow Dog is victorious
The land of the Overworld is saved again"

Daz Genesis and Millenium Dog are the models used in this dance. Journeyer Scout pants and shirt for By-Tor. His medallion is from M4 Evilson. Genesis Bracers also used. Torch, dagger, crown and cape I made in Hexagon. Background made in Bryce, characters rendered in DS4. Gate from Stonemason's Graveyard set. Garibaldi Hair Plug-In for D/S also used.

Re: By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Thanks very much for the kind words, my friend! I know my pics can seem quite random they actually make sense on a more personal level. I think I heard this song as a teen and thought "yeah, that'd make a cool pic" and then many years later, I was showing some of my early 3D work to old friends who hadn't seen it when one, for some odd reason, asked if I was familiar with this song. I told him I was and he asked if I could do a pic of it. I was really giving it some serious thought right then and there, going over details in my head before I finally looked at him and said no. I told him there was no way I could ever do any "snow dog" till I figured out fur and I was a long way off from that! Even that was several years ago. Fast forward to now: Daz has a "music lyrics" render challenge, I remember this long forgotten friend challenge and I'm trying to get a handle on doing hair and fur so I figured this would be a good opportunity. It was cool working from lyrics with characters who had not already been visually defined. In addition to characters, I also tried to include various elements from within the song like torchlight, cavern and gate although the lyrics are really just a framework for the lengthy instrumental describing the battle anyway.
Anyway, while I have been venturing away from usual superhero themes of late, fear not! I am back to my old self, looking forward to this next one: an old obscure 70's Marvel superhero who seems to be enjoying a renewed interest lately... of course, I'll be doing that 70's version.

as usual you refuse to conform to normalcy. and that's why i enjoy your work so much. i can't say i know much about this song or theme, but the fact that you even attempt these things is a testament to your originality. besides when you couple that with such amazing art..what could be better?
