this is the darkest pic i've done so far, and i'm not just referring to the lighting. so she's captured, her would-be killer is waiting but that look in her eye makes me think he's just where she wants him.

I don't think anyone here was kicking you in your ass. My problem now is that I don't see any pipes. Maybe my monitor is not showing the entire picture. Does she have hands? Cuz I'm only seeing her wrists, no hands. All in all, putting all the little problems aside, this is still a top notch piece of work.

Re: I nitpick because I care...
wow. that must be the most indepth critique i have ever had for any pic. okay now to justify some choices i made.
you are 100% right about me using the emboss filter. i guess i should have used a small brush but that is what filters are for. it would have been alot of work to trace around those edges and i'm far too lazy to do that.
i did think about making the costume wrap around her body more realisticly but the pic is so dark i didn't want to lose anymore detail, she has a fine figure and i wanted to keep as much of it as possible.
texture, i have no excuse. i just finished a spidergirl pic and those goddamn webs were a pain i was not in any mood to add to put THAT much effort into this. again, lazy lazy lazy.
utility belt, well yes you are right again. but i went to the trouble of finding the pics anyway so i used them.
mr zsasz, i'm getting a fair bit of stick for him  i cannot see those lines. when i seperated the model it wasn' t wuite sharp enough so i took a dark brush to paint the legs back in, thinking no-one would be able to see that, cos i couldn't.
now it's not fair to tell me to go so realisticly in one direction and then want a completly unrealistic effect somewhere else. i wanted to see the scars but not the body, but i didn't want the scars to be lit up on a black sillouhette.

huntress's suit, well c'mon, we all have our favourites. her current suit iis totally inappropriate for what she does. Batman doesn't show of so much skin, particularly his midrif, why? he would get a bullet put into it. her old suit was much more practical and suited her personality better.

i tell you guys what, i will redo this, at some point and i will take all of your opinions into account. thank you for those comments everyone needs a kick up their backside at some point.

Well, I was thinking about how wonderful the costume looked, drooling over those boots. I personally love the lighting work. Then I saw Quatum's comment, lost my train of though... wait... what the hell am I babbling about?

 I nitpick because I care...
The best parts of this image are the composition, lighting and color use. It tells a story rather than just being a pinup. What I think could move the image to the next level is additional attention to the subtle details.

For the costume, I think you need to develop an eye for figuring out how the costume interacts with the human form. Barring gravity and glue, material wants to take the path of least distance to cover something. Most of this is covered by the blurring of the details from the original skin. The only 2 places that stick out to me are the area between the breasts and the armpit.

Another issue is sharpness. The pipe seams between the colors are a lot more jaggie that the model's image. Also, while I'm on the subject of the pipe seams I have to say that they look like they were done with the emboss tool rather than with a brush. If you lock the transperant pixels on the layer you can get MUCH better effects with a 1px paintbrush than a filter. You obviously have an eye for shapes as you can use the paths tool and understand perspective. This can serve you in making pipes, creases and seams.

Lastly, the costume also needs some texture. Right now it seems that spandex is the costume material. A subtle use of the noise filter could help in this department or you could use one of the advanced brushes to do this.

Now that I'm done nagging about the costume I have to move on to the accessories.

The utility belt could use some separation from the rest of the costume. Right now it looks like it's further back in the image than the material it's supposed to be covering. I've noticed that you've used photographic utility pouches. This is good for sketching out your idea but you should try making your own with the originals as a guide. As it stands right now they look like something on a character in a 3d game.

The boot on the model's right-hand side is way too bright to be matched with the image. You were brave enough to let the lines tell the story on the rest of the costume. I think you should continue with the boots. You could use the shadows on the reflection on the mattress as your guide. Also, the top of the boots are missing in the reflection.

Mr Zazaz... You have those 2, large, awkward brush strikes going up his legs. Adjust your monitor and destroy that layer immediately.

I think you were going to backlight him and then realized that there was a lightsource off to his left. You are on the right track. Drew Struzan's arwork can be an excellent guide to working around this dilemma. I recommend his Hellboy poster specifically. Plunging him into darkness and keeping his scars highlighted will increase the mystery and menace in the image.

I REALLY think you have an awesome photo-painting here. I'd really love to see it brought to the next level!THIS LINK is my bible for monitor adjustment. I found out on my last project that my desktop CRT is dying after I moved the project to my laptop.

I first commented on this over at Bold. It's bigger over here so I can see more details. I notice now the two dark lines on the inner thighs of the dude. Most likely just a tiny error in editing. I like the dark look and feel of this, no changes needed for me.

That is one bad picture.

Any chance of a redo in her current costume or the original from the 70s-80s?

Perfect costume design but the situation is far too dark for my tastes. How about a sequel pic where Helena breaks loose and stomps this guy's grapes for trying something like this? Justa thought.

i think my screen must be too dark, cos i can't make out the smudge lines. please forgive this oversight.
(note to self - just cos it's dark on my screen doesn't mean it's dark on everyones)
