Re: Black cat By Winterhawk Great job Winterhawk! The color change on her hair is excellent. Very good work on the wrinkles and adding in the fur as well.

Re: Black cat By Winterhawk hi every one, thank you. -Heroglyph, you are correct on my small oversight i just simply did not notice i forgot to put a drop shadow in for the medallion.when i asked my second set of eyes (my wife) to look at this one to see if i was done she just said "why are you making hookers, i thought this was for superheroes" -optical, it is my drop shadows. i have been using the burn tool at 100% to make them and it tends to make things black. it normally looks pretty good but not when it is against white. i think i will try a different setting maybe 45% it justs darken the color. also the mask i used a soft brush for my drop shadow it did this because when i used a hard brush it did not look like a shadow and just looked like part of the mask (and my brain did not think of put the percentage of the burn tool down). or do you think it is better to use a colourized brush based on the original color. -DK, the fur trim was taken from a picture of a fur coat i found on goggle image search. it was a dark brown and was a pain in the butt to re-color (or should i say un-color) but for the hair and the fur i used the same method of coloring. once i had them in layers i saturated using white (instead of black as in BA tutorials) this gave a lighter effect then i put on one coat of white at 30% and then put the contrast to 45 and the brightness to 10 or so. the right side of her hair did not look right so i seperated the layer into 2 layers and played with the contrast and brightness a little further to make it look right. then dodged and burned it a little with a 1 pixel brush. thank again

Re: Black cat By Winterhawk First off, great base pic for the character. The hair is good, a bit too light just to the left of her face, otherwise, well done. Consistant higlights and shadows on the costume. The zipper pull looks 3 dimensional, but it could use a little bit more drop shadow to seperate it from her costume. Nice to see you're experimenting with wrinkles, nice placement on them. The collar and mask seem a bit fuzzy around the edges, I think it may be your drop shadow that's doing it. Quick tip: when making a drop shadow, try not to use the default black color. Take the darkest tone of the object that the shadow is falling on and use that instead. The fur around her neck seems to have too much of a hard dark line around it where it meets the skin, again, could be your drop shadow. If you want to really drive yourself crazy, try going in with a 1 pixel brush and draw some individual strands of fur overlapping her skin and costume on a seperate layer. Then give it a slight blur to blend it with the rest of the fur. Great job! Keep pushing yourself, you're getting better with each piece. A beer to you: ! Optical
