Whenever I log in to do my e-mail, whether it be my primary address or secondary one, it keeps shutting down the browser on me. If I try Internet Explorer, I get a box that states: "IE has encountered a problem and must shut down now. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you". If I try it with Mozilla's FireFoxe, It drops the web page; and I get a similar message. Also, whenever I go anywhere on the 'Net, it takes 4-5 tries before I get to the webpage I want...as an example, it took 4 tries to get to the the "Forums" thread; I kept getting sent to some place called "CAFEMOM"! Now, I run "Malawarebytes" 'Malaware' program every other day...and my anti-virus and firewalls are all up-to-date. So, I'm wondering if there's something else wrong with this machine ( HAL 9000 been seen around here lately? ) Have any of you ever had this problem...and, if so, how did you fix it? Remember, I'm a wizard in the kitchen...and a ''Jethro Bodine'' when it comes to computers. If it's a "freeware' fix...that's cool...otherwise, I'm getting the feeling I'm stuck out here on an ice floe...and here come the polar bears... Wolf Posted on: 5 06 09 03:19 am

I've switched to Google Chrome and haven't had any issues. I'm currently at local library; hope to power up and 'fix' when I get home. My current OP Sys is "Last XP", w/Service Pack 2. Microsoft won't help me..."It's an outdated Op Sys." AssHoles! Again, thanks for the help...if it don't work, may have to re-format computer; that will lose me a ton of hard-to-replace material, tough...but will do whatever needs to be done. A lot of my users here at my work get things like these. Couple things, run Windows XP update here and upgrade to Service Pack 3 on this machine, there were security flaws that were changed and fixed here. As well IE 8 is not stable enough really here. May want to download a copy of IE 7 and re-installed. As well if you go to the Tools menu under the webrowser and choose to manage your add on's there are a lot of items that can sneak in for FireFox and IE that will put itself as an add on and can cause lot of headaches here. Manage the add ons, and check for ones you recognize, if it is only effecting the webrowsers part, uninstall one then re-install, then reinstall the other, restart clear cache for the browsers. Check Add-ons, upgrade to service pack 3. Hope this helps here... Posted on: 5 06 09 03:03 pm

Got it back up and running...ran 5 different 'anti-malware' programs...installed new anti-virus...and got several updates downloaded. Now...7 and a half hours later...IT'S BACK! You might need to replace some damaged files. Specifically sfc.exe how to use it, http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html how it runs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222193 Two other key programs you might want to run are Process Explorer v11.33 by security expert Mark Russinovich. His company was purchased by MS and now he works for them. Process Explorer which lists running processes, as well as who makes the process and much much more. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx Autoruns (same creator) will let you safely turn items off (or delete the registry keys). Be very careful with the second one. Google things before turning them off. Don't delete something until you know exactly what it does. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx A third powerful tool is hijack this http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html Here's detailed instructions on hijackthis http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html A powerful tool that allows you to remove viruses from the registry. Once again look up things before removing. Both AutoRuns and Hijack This are power user tools. You must be familiar with what's normal for your OS or at least use with extreme caution.
