I watched three episodes of Dr. Who and find the writing so bad that I just can't and wont ever get into it. Holy shit... it was horrible. But hey, that is just my opinion... not everyone that likes Dr. Who can have as good of taste as me and recognize bad writing and even worse acting. But alas... (Yeah, screw y'all too. <--- I just say that because I am pretty sure that is going to be in the comments on this post... Somewhere )

Smith is leaving after the Christmas Special and John
Hurt is going to take the role. meaning, it's the first
time in a while that an older man is Doctor Who. I'm
actually looking forward to it. maybe the next/final
incarnation will be a woman. shoud be interesting.

Neilrok, if you followed the episode you would have seen that John Hurt was the Doctor's Past he was hiding from.the man he was BEFORE he took on the name of the Doctor. He is not dawning the role as the 12th Doctor. That has been confirmed by BBC that they are still casting for that role.

This is correct Pijon. He is a timelord from the planet Galafry. He is 911 years old. Regeneration is how he survives or when they want to keep the show going when the lead actor leaves.

mentions possible replacements and one of them is
Catherine Tate (Donna Noble-Season 4). I think it
would be terrific. other candidates include:

Idris Elba
James Nesbitt
Rupert Grint
Hugh Laurie
Eddie Izzard
Richard Madden

even David Tennant. the writer suggests that the
Doctor should "degenerate" for a few episodes that
"regenerate" again. looking forward to seeing who
they pick.

No. He is not going to be one of the 1st 3. His role is going to be the man this time lord was BEFORE he took the self appointed title of Doctor.
David (10th doctor is a possibility because His character was Cloned from the Severed hand from the Christmas Special between Season 1 end and the beginning of Season 2. This Clone is currently in an alternate Diminsion with Rose.

Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) Could not take on the Role because if that character remembers ANY of the events that happened after she became the Donna/Doctor she would die, as the strain would be too much for her human body to take.

One I see as a good candidate would be Georgia Moffit. She played the Doctor's Daughter in the episode called "The Doctor's Daughter" As she is a complete genetic clone from the Doctor's DNA.

I have enjoyed reading this thread... I had NO idea. I might be able to watch another episode knowing that Dr. Who is an illegal alien.

I think the idea is not that the John Hurt version is a predecessor to Hartnell's Doctor, but rather that he did something so horrible that he lost the right to call himself the Doctor. We won't know for sure til the anniversary special.

As for Twelve... I'd be perfectly fine with a female Doctor, so long as they cast a good actress (which they presumably would). It'd be an interesting angle to take, and it's already been established that Time Lords can change sex during regenerations.

But I don't for a second expect it to actually happen. Nor do I expect the actor who gets the job to be a particularly big name.

(Oh, and I'd have to return my obsessive fanboy card if I failed to point out that it's spelled Gallifrey. And that the Doctor is probably well over a thousand at this point.)
