Re: The Spectre: Inks Just to approach this from a slightly different angle; I blocked and burned-out about 10 years ago working as a technical artist for a major dickhead. I haven't picked up a drawing pencil since. Now, I am a lurker at Heromorph.
Don't give up on your soul, it's very difficult to find after you do.

Re: The Spectre: Inks I hear ya VX!!! Amen Brother! One of the things that naturally occurs as artists improve technically, is that their work becomes increasingly lifeless. It's a product of the focus on technique, and study. The good news is that growing as an artist is a process. At first we find the joy of it. As we continue we see our failings and seek to eliminate them. Many fall to the wayside, unable to reconcile their pursuit of excellence with the loss of gratification that pursuit forces us to endure. Then once we gain a profficiency we lacked we find the joy again. This is a cyclical process that repeats itself at shorter and shorter intervals the further along you go. Now I have been pursuing art since I was 10 years old, and this process contiues for me to this day. I am 41. One thing I can say is that the passion for artistic endeavor has never relented in me, and I now find joy in modest succeses... I wonder if any of this helps Oh and now and again there is always that spurt where it all comes together... now that's fun

Re: The Spectre: Inks Hey man. .. i agree with the other fellaz bellow, I actually LIKE this piece alot, you've got some good strong lines here. . . I have that problem sometimes where you have this GREAT idea in your head but it never really translates onto paper, it's no biggy just never give up your passion for art and when you feel you're lacking in an area you can always ask for help or check out a good book store for material that can help you on the subject, info is always out there for you. . . . anyway bro don't sweat it, and sometimes it's even good to try a different medium sometimes I get tired of the Graffiti style so I'll do some colored pencil stuff of move onto a stippled piece and so on, so that way you kinda challenge your mind and talent to do things from different perspectives, anyway I hope this has been helpful!!! Never stop drawin'!
Someone once said "It's a shame that an artist never really thinks his work is as good as it REALLY is"

Re: The Spectre: Inks I really don't see what you're complaining about. That looks great. Color it and add some background elements and maybe it will come up to your expectations. KEEP DRAWING!!! I like your style. And don't get yourself down if it doesn't turn out perfect in your eyes. We've all been there. If you get stuck and need some advice, there are some great critics here who would be happy to help out. Just ask. This site is the best resource I've found. Take advantage of it. Don't get down...you're better than you think.

Re: The Spectre: Inks You ain't the only one...........
Honestly, the saying is true. An artist is his own worst critic. That being said. I, and I would assume every artist here can understand where you are coming from. Before October I suffered from a seriously long artist block. Nothing I drew was worth a damn to me. Nothing I thought of would follow through on paper. What broke it? Trying something different. I had been drawing original stuff since I can first remember. At 32 I figured it was time to bust out some fan art. Andromeda and Rogue being the first 2. And after a discussion with Bio on technique and tools, I suprised even ME.
Before I found Heromorph, I could bust out a drawing in 5 to 10 minutes. I thought I was decent, but I was always aggrivated that I couldn't get the quality of even some of the stuff I've seen out of you. Hell, I still don't know if I'm there, but I'm happy that I'm better than I was. Or more to the point, closer to that goal.
I hope I made sense.
