The sun rose and the morning mist hung heavily on the bay below. Halma, commander of the night watch caught the first glimpse of the sails on the horizon. She left the safety of the battlement and walked carefully on the rock overhang.
"PIRATES"!, she yelled to Miraj.
Without hesitation, the young girl took her torch and lit the signal fire.
The great bronze urn sparked to life as flames jumped from its opening.
Three monoremes made their way into the harbor. The first alert bells sounded from the temple tower.
"They have used the cover of fog to approach us.", Halma said, "There will be no time for reinforcements to arrive." She looked again at the three ships, at best their would be only 20 effectives, at worst 50. She closed her eyes as the morning sun warmed her ebony face. "Prepare sisters, we will have to fight them alone!"

Thanks for the comments.
Pijon, I was hoping to use a Bryce environment, but my skills with that program are still inadequate. I am hoping to utilize it in future manips. Yeah there is a bit of weirdness where the battlement meets the cliff, I tried to minimize it to greater or lesser success. I was hoping to relate that the "castle" is carved from the rock of the cliff.

This is a very cool back-story and scene, complex and well composed. I really love the POV and you have some wonderful details here. There's a little bit of weirdness going on in the lower right. I think it may be cliff side and castle poking through each other. I really do think you've a done a wonderful job with this and the time and effort are quite apparent although I can't help but think you might be better served by an environmental type render program like Bryce which would provide better textures for rocks, water, fog, etc as well as environmental lighting. Still, excellent work by any standard.
