I don't get a whole lot of comments on my work actually posted here on Heromorph, but I DO receive a lot of them left on my website or Emailed to me at banzaigirlmc@aol.com.  (I love getting comments, so post 'em!!  Please!)

One thing that seems to get a lot of attention is my drawing popular established comics characters.  So my subject this time is RED SONJA.

It always bothers me when artists do a drawing where the heroine is just sort of standing around posing prettily, or maybe holding a weapon and looking like she's going "Grrrrr."  Comics are about storytelling, so I try to tell a story of some sort with every drawing I do.

For this illustration, I decided to depict Res Sonja in the midst of battle, leading a hoard of female warriors, and attacked by a creature so vile his skin had been ripped from his body, revealing the muscles beneath!  I wanted it full of energy, action, power -- and even at the monster's seeming moment of triumph, to give Red Sonja a sense of movement and beauty and grace -- without ever losing the knowledge that she is a warrior.

What do you think?

Hugs,

-- Jinky

I've actually been gravitating towards storytelling with my work, as well. I started to realize that I was on about the 37 billionth image of just a heroine standing and looking pretty and decided I was capable of more. My personal favorite thing to do is comic covers. I like giving a teaser of some story to come. Of course, I never actually write those stories lol. I'll leave that to others if they are so inclined.

You do fantastic work. I don't think that I have seen an image of yours that I don't like. As always, I can't wait to see the next one.

You had me at Red Sonja!
Another masterpiece Jinky! I hope the followup will show Red doing what she does best, slicing red boy's skull like a grapefruit!

Very cool fight scene and a truly frighening monster, Jinky! This defiantely tells a story, though one I hope has a happy ending. ["Not in the face! That's how I make my livins!"- Cotton Hill]

This is great, although a little more fight or pain in her face would be great, there is so much going on and her face seems a little dull compared, too much in repose. I love what your colorist did here. As always your action is inspirational and I like your monster. I have such a problem with creating monsters. I really like her pose too.

I really love the colors on this one. It just grabs your attention. There's none of that crappy overly done shadowing and black lines, its all crisp and almost natural. Very nicely done, infact, you have made the list of artists ol' DI "hates" right up there with JustinBLong. Don't worry.. the "hate" isn't a bad thing... I actually envy you and your work.
