Just make sure that in the render settings you have the draw dome and environment off

Awesome Idea. Poke throughs need a little work and is she wearing a cape or half skirt? It is hard to tell and as such, I am not sure if it is part of the poke through problem or not.

As a suggestion, I would render the characters, no background and save as a png file then add to a background.
