Re: Firestorm While I admit I'm blown away by this. And it is an amazing piece. I always preferred the version of him that almost looked like metal skin and white flaming hair, and I think he had flames coming off his legs and arms too.

Re: Firestorm This pic is on fire! And the fire looks good, which is unusual in manips. Love the 'inner glow' shining through the armor.

Re: Firestorm I really like the look and feel of this quasi silouette image. If I may add one thing that is slightly annoying me is that on the VL side of the armoured chest, where the shoulder plate is, it feels paper thin, where as on the right side, you've created a tiny lip of shdow where the metal begins to turn onto a differnt plane.
I would like to see a few sharp highlights in areas to give definition to the form since most of the transitions are perfectly smooth, but that is just me.
all around great piece with a really great vibe to it. Full of atmosphere.

Re: Firestorm Oh, I do like a good hook in the super hero genera. (and here is a good example of several)
Graphically sharp, light blends into light and light contrasts with dark. Great concept with this character! It gets straight to the point

Art Notes Art NOtes for those who care.
Firestorm is one of those characters I've always liked and has been on my to do list for some time. However, I just never saw an image of Firestorm that captured my eye that I wanted to try my hand at. Well obviously I found a pic.
For those who don't know how I manip, I basically recreate comic images in Photoshop. I use the comic image as a base and I work from that, this was originally a cover image (Firestorm#18)
The thing I liked about the cover image was the extreme lighting and sense of power....both of those play to my strengths. To create Firestrom it was more of the same from me. I built grey template bases for the torso, head, and arms. Then it was LOTS of burning and blurring each grey template. There was not a lot of dodging...but what there was, was extreme. The "energy lines" on the face and chest were created with the pen tool and then stroked. Then I just added an outer glow with a gradient glow and then set it to linear dodge. The fire was created using difference clouds and a gradient map to get the colors. The color of the costume was difficult because of the lighting...but it was all done with color balance.
Anyways...that is it...I think. Questions and comments are welcome.
