Stonerific! Anything involving Howard the Duck rockin' a katana in a bongful of zombies gets instant cred in my book! Who the eff cares about technique? The concept is untouchable

Let me make a little list here...

What I like:
1. the general idea
2. texture and light of the swamp

What I don't like:
1. composition (because our eyes don't know where they should focus their attention)
2. the flaming character (because his fire should spread its light over a bigger area)

I agree. Of the cross-over pics, this one's concept and character choices were my favorite.

I made a thousand forms in Painter using a filter/app (?) called growth. I had to alter the output to make them into trees. Then I used a fire filter and some blurring to make the Spanish moss.

That's Dracula in the corner, JR, watching the carnage from a distance just the way he likes it.

Mike, how did you do those trees, man? They look too intricate to be drawn in, but they're all too symmetrical to be natural. Aaagh! Kong not know answer! Why answer elude Kong?

Is that the guy from the Iron Maiden album covers next to Shang-Chi's head?
You guys did some great work here, your styles compliment each other nicely.

Well, I guess I just got a bit of a clue as to what it'll be like when Bio and I get into the meat of our collaboration. Sweet! You 2 rocked.

That's top class drawing and coloring, guys! Great lighting and mood to the pic. And it's really nice to see a drawn picture in this rather manip heavy contest.
(You guys should enter this for the halloween contest over at c2f as well.)

Mike is totally giving me way more credit on this then I deserve. Really, the truly impressive parts are all due to his technical skill more then anything I did. Although I will say, this whole situation made me more passionate about drawing something then I'd been in a long time. The rejected ideas alone could fuel a few dozen images.

My incredulity at this is that I haven't sone anything this good in my life--or at least, nothing I can find, remember, nor fit onto my scanner. I swear that when Mike e-mailed the finished product, I thought there had been some horrible mix-up and he sent me a concept piece for a new Tim Burton movie or something. The sad thing is it might be a long time before I'm a party to anything this-damn, look at it, it IS prettydamned good-like this again.

This sure brings back great memories of a long gone era. Well done!

As for Howard the Duck... you just had to have been there. *sigh*

 Art Notes
STM/Lord K and I just got interested in doing something combining a little of both of the themes for this crossover.

Quote:

Shade the Mystic wrote:
I don't remember exactly how this got started- I mentioned Man-Wolf, Biohaz mentioned Man-Thing, it sort of snowballed into a revival of bongwater '70's characters I wasn't around for, somehow we got a very nice, very creepy and moody George Romero piece...

The layout and idea were mostly STM's I just was digging the vibe. He did a lot of work right away.

Quote:

*Achem!* Alright, Shang Chi, Man-Thing, a few of the zombies (totally coincidental, it being Halloween and all, I swear!), and the three villains- Dracula, Mephisto and Dramalla-were done by me, as was the general layout (the whole being surrounded by zombies thing)

I could totally see a nice creepy swamp jumping out of his work and so I tightened up the layout a little and did some shading. We ended up splitting the coloring duties, and that left me to put on some photoshop pizazz and here you go.
