it occured to me: dr. doom is 1 of the 3 smartest people in all of the marvel universe.  he has 1 of the most sophisticated armors in all of comic-dom.  he has even given people super powers.  why hasn't he ever had a team like the avengers of his own?  why does he have those doombots that keep getting destroyed?  instead, i thought it would be cool to do this: a Latdoom, a man in armor.  he's part of dr. doom's version of the avengers for latervia.

I think the main reason Doom wouldn't want a team of people is the whole unpredictability factor. Thats probably why he likes robots better. Unquestioned loyalty and instant obedience. With people, especially if they were superpowered people, there would always be the danger of one or more of them reaching the point where they thought, "Wait, why are we taking orders from this guy again?"
