Decided to challenge myself with this experiment I devised to depict a face by use of only triangles.
Sketched it on paper, then used the sketch as a template in CorelDraw to create more uniform neat shapes of the triangles...
This is the somewhat surreal result. |

2003. The vinyl surface of my desk was falling apart due to my short-sighted use of it as a cutting board, so I stretched three strips of masking-tape alongside each other vertically to keep the vinyl in its place. With this blank canvas of masking-tape panels staring me down daily, it wasn't long before I felt the urge to fill the empty space... so utilising a four-colour ballpoint pen I set about depicting this window into surrealville.
I later replaced the masking tape with new strips and scanned and adjusted the original strips to remove the colour and texture of the tape from the artwork.
Like gazing at clouds, I hope you can see a variety of hidden forms within the image. Lemme know what ya think. |

But as an artist, ya gotta have a crack at the big characters. And as a surrealist artist, ya gotta have a crack at everything.
As a Salvidor Dali fan (and an Al Jaffee fan), I had to attempt creating a hidden face. This was one of my very first sketches with surreal sensibilities. 1999. |

| Way back in 1999 I saw this pic in a tattoo magazine as a black and white ad. It was about 3 inches in diameter and I re-drew it larger for a friend and forgot all about. Recently my friend was going through all his old stuff, found the original and e-mailed it to me, when I saw it I knew I had to photoshop touch it up and post it here. Wish I knew who the original artist was that I copied this from so I could give him/her/it proper credit. Enjoy. |
