I never read any DC books for long. The only batman comics I have are the ones by Miller. I read Superman when Byrne did it. I read supergirl because Peter David and Gary Frank were on it. So if former marvel guys were on a dc book I would read it for a little while. I could have put more artists on it. I was really a Paul Smith fan and I like Chris Sprouse alot.
Gaaah! Gene Colan! How could I forget Gene Colan? Miller too, even if he is a bit of a nutter nowadays.
Very nostalgic cover gallery. I was a Marvel guy too. This is a pretty much a who's who (erm... official handbook?) of Marvel artists. All the reasons I fell in love with this whole medium, right there...
love this one being a Marvel comics fan myself. i probaly would have made a lot of similar choices myself with the exception of Pollard & Andru [i could tolerate thier work but never brought the comic because of it...same with Colan. although I grew to appreciate him more as I got older]. Seeing you use John Buscema kind of makes me remorseful in the matter of my choice on my own Map. I asn't totally honest in my choice..while i loved John Buscema's work it was actually the work of his brother Sal that i tried to pattern my own art style after.
Okay, I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and guess you were a fan of Marvel Comics growing up. Very cool, dude! No surprise we see eye to eye on Steranko and Kirby and I've already expressed my regrets of not including Buscema in my own map under my comments for Star's. Actually every choice here's excellent as are the pieces picked to represent them. Good stuff! Thanks for stepping up.
